If Epic bought the company they would've made it free.

you can use houdini muscle but the tools are much much worse

not op, and never used the muscle tools in houdini but how's the new vellum based toolkit coming along? is vellum actually good enough for this? the handful of demos they showed were very wobbly looking, but i don't know if it was just exaggerated for demo purposes or if vellum just can't replicate the look of a FEM sim.

Doesn't the stuff made free by Epic have some kind of catch to them?

You need to render your content in Unreal if you use their tools, that’s it.

Usually it's free if you use it in Unreal otherwise you pay, but they tend to bring the price down once they bought it.

So if I manage to port the stuff to Blender i'm all good and free from strings attached? It isn't like that is it?

I want to know this as well. I dont want to spend $500+ on ziva if i dont have to.

hmm, as i said i'm totally clueless when it comes to muscle sims. what sort of features would ziva have that this doesn't?

houdini's had muscles since before vellum was introduced. the new tools are just a vellum based overhaul as far as i know.

This a good vellum muscle overview, but obviously you need to know your way around houdini, not to mention the anatomically correct sculpted muscles for full realism. Wouldn't be too hard to procedurally model muscles from anim skeleton even for more simple, stylized.

ziva's zeke the lion looks orders of magnitude more convincing than this and that was from years ago.

Yes. However it still demonstrates a solid workflow that is perfectly capable of achieving the same results. The only difference in those cases is artistic ability/ sensibility. There is no secret sauce, no a "make it look good" button. If you don't have any interest in Houdini beyond muscle sims then Ziva is your tool.

the results arent the same. Zeke is orders of magnitude more convincing.
I use maya for ziva and animation and import it into houdini as abc
