Been stuck for 3 days
How can I use the brush to erase the material in certain spots. I'd like the material from underneath to be exposed.

Anonymous No. 924924

you have to merge both materials and in the mix shader add a texture to paint what you want to be exposed.

Is this how you merge both materials? The orange
bsdf is mixed with the procedural mud bsdf's.

>in the mix shader add a texture to paint what you want to be exposed.

Confused about this part, how do I go about it?

Hi Pajeet, any node that takes in a Factor socket (ColorRamp, MixRGB, MixNodes etc) expects a numerical value in the range [0, 1].

R, G, B, A channels in texture pixels have such values. In a white opaque pixel, the RGBA channel values are (1,1,1,1), and in a black opaque pixel they're (0,0,0,1).

So create an image in the Image editor with black as starting color, add a Texture > Image Texture node, then add a Convert > Separate RGB node.
Plug Image color to Separate node, plug R channel from Separate to the factor of the Mix node.

Go to texture paint mode (either in the image editor or on the 3d viewport), paint using grayscale colors (white, black & everything in between) so your eyes don't bleed from painting with like red-&-black.

remove the separate color node and just use the texture

Did that now but the result is the same
The bumps are still there on the cube

I mean to add mud to the legs, but assigning material to the vertices gives me this result, there is no blend/fade to the mud

to mask the displacement you have to use the mix color node and it is a bit more complex, you have to use the texture to mask the first one, invert the texture and to mask the second and merge both after.

you know that nobody in this entire industry textures like this (with blender), so why advocate it to anyone, especially a beg? Use Substance Painter

giving this a try

Also I've watched this tutorial, the way he paints it seems it adds bumps, shine etc to the cube.
I've tried baking color, roughness etc (displacement can't be baked apparently). Is it possible to merge all these maps into psd or similar format and then use it to paint spots on the model like in the tutorial?

blender doesn't support layers in imgs I suppose they'll have it in 2025 at best, you can use the separate rgb to do something like that, one sec.

I've installed the tools first.

ok been playing with Substance Painter a bit
is this thing ideal for adding dirt details to blend file? To a rigged human model more specifically.

It seems that Adobe's program exports it to fbx or obj. Which means I'll have to add the particles rig and clothes back onto the model. So this doesn't actually make my job easier.

what you should do is assign the same material to your character. Bring it into SP. Paint your transparency masks here. This gives you the power of SP. Go back to Blender, and use the mix node. Don't be a scrub and paint your mask in Blender.

?
this is what that does, you control both materials with the ColorRamp and the Noise Texture and you control that with the texture, white removes, black adds back the noise, all is super laggy.

I feel like I'm retarded
Nothing changes in the top view, tried to paint with white and black
Only in the lower leftmost view
I've unhooked the bump node

>>925131
Can you paint in the texture? if you can't you can try to add a new black texture to the node idk, I disconect the bump node because the performance is horrible with it, you have to conect it back after paint the mask, if you read the nodes you can see that I've added a mask on top of your procedural texture that it is masking both materials, it works to me, sorry i can't help you more from here.

Changed the color in the image node to black again but nothing.

If I can finally understand how to properly paint the mud on her skin in certain spots I'd forever be grateful, I'll suck yo dick bro.
I hope you have time and good internet to check the legs of the model, they have mud material assigned

I don't know if you are a CBT enjoyer (ie.: you want to do the whole thing in Blender only), but I think it would be way simper and most positively way fucking faster, to port that female model to Daz, apply mud shaders, port it back and do the rest of the work?
I mean how long have you been at it now, a month?

3-4 days with the mud issue

bad experience with importing models from daz to blender, human models at least, are always too bright, with low contrast.

I suppose these are nodes from a different render engine or maybe a different blender version I'm using 3.5, and that's eevee, you can change to cycles and try it, I had problems with the skin textures, idk if that will happen to you, I suppose you can reload them.

Anonymous No. 925202

The mud looks off and has some artifacts. I don't mean the left leg.

In Evee everything's black, while in Cycles the model is invisible
