now that the dust has settled, I have come to hate eevee next. i liked eevee for more abstract shit but now I've just fully embraced cycles for everything.
is there a way to still get old eevee in 4.3?

coincidentally I just installed 4.3 yesterday after being on 3.0 up to this point.
It's an amazing accomplishment, everything is unfamiliar and it gives me the slowness I need. My current workflow is to press the X button in the upper right hand corner and then start up blender 3.6. Scenes that once pushed eevee to it's limits are now, with several years of development, even worse. Scenes that once ran fine are now moving at a blistering 30 frames a second, which is excessive since the human eye is well-known for only being capable of seeing 15 frames per second.
I once thought that software which runs worse than its predecessors for no perceivable gain in graphical quality was strictly a video game thing, but I am glad to see that with Blender 4.0 this practice is being used by other types of software. These are exciting times, perhaps one day in the future we will need to rent time on a cloud computing service and spend 10 dollars to apply a transparent BSDF to the default cube (only to then spend another 5 in order to swap from "dithered" to "blended" so that it doesn't look like shit).

Blender is a laughingstock. I just went on their website and they're doing the obnoxious Wikipedia begging for money thing now.

Runs about 15% slower with ray tracing turned on, what are you talking about?
