Not bait
But what's the point of learning 3D? Like what can you realistically do if you get good at it?
Can the average person make a living out of this, or is it like 2D art where 99% don't even have a job prospect
Anonymous at Fri, 7 Feb 2025 02:58:26 UTC No. 1007040
It's exactly like in 2D.
Even if you're incredibly good the market is absoutely flooded with CHEAP good nuff labor.
Do it as a hobby if you're interested in it and maybe you'll get good enough AND get lucky to get some well paying commissions or something.
Going all in 3D simply because you "need the money" is pants on head retarded in 2025.

It's all so gay
Basically the only way to make a living out of this is either be a 1%er, or become a teacher selling the dream of making a living through your passion to others, huh?
How bleak. I am done with this homosexual state of affairs.

IDK man, i just like to make things, and 3D was more fun to me than traditional drawing, so i'm here. I'not even in it looking for bux or a job, i already get those from somehwere else.

Do you wanna learn, to make cool 3d shit for whatever reason, be it work or hobby? Just like drawing, it's something you do. If you have to ask yourself that, probably you don't want to learn it, though

No, I do
Just saddened, and overwhelmed with the fact that anything cool always requires so much study, and practice, and god forbid you are interested in 3 or 4 things
I'd love to get myself to the point where I can sketch out a character design, model it and then animate it to make short little stories I see in my head
Maybe I am just being a fag

Yes, you are. You're one of those dreamers who never learned how to complete anything. The key to success is breaking goals down to smaller, more attainable ones and having patience. 3D modeling is fucking hard if you want to do it well, you have to set clear short-term goals and be ready to invest years or at least months to make anything worthwhile. That said, learning 3D is good "in addition to" other skills. As others have said it's not going to a paying job you can live off of.

Same situation as you. Motivation only occurs for huge goals, lasts for ~12 hours, and then it's gone. From there even if I try to keep working it's like a blown fuse, I only do 1 hour of work per day. Totally helpless until I think of a new goal. And then it repeats.
Your best strat is deluding yourself that some massive goal is possible within 1-2 days and chasing it. And when it ends think of a new goal, but make sure it's adjacent to your dream overall. I managed to produce my first render the other day this way

This anon got it. You don't get great running a marathon at the start. You need to start with something you can bite and see the improvement, whatever small it is.

There is no point. what you are asking is the same as asking cavemen why they paint on walls.

Imagine giving a shit about muh "job prospects"
If this is your passion everything else is a distraction. It doesn't matter if your house is nice because you're going to be spending all of your time looking at a screen or the back of your eyelids. You don't actually want a woman because she's inevitably going to realize that you view anything that doesn't involve your craft as a distraction and will get bored of you. She'll realize this after a few months of being a huge unyielding distraction. You don't want kids because to have kids requires allowing a woman to distract you, and once the kids are made she can and will wield the power of the state to become the ultimate distraction.
All you need in this life is a desk to sit at. If you can't figure out the logistics of making that happen idk what to tell you. If you care about other things more than this I don't understand what your question even is- focus on those things and do this on the weekends (if your ugly girlfriend isn't distracting you with superfluous trips to target)
pic unrelated

3D is such an ample topic, but the point is that it's all about bringing a whole new layer of interactivity to static references. and the driving force for most of it is just because it's fun to do, or atleast see the results.
>Can the average person make a living out of this, or is it like 2D art where 99% don't even have a job prospect
since you narrowed it down to art, not a living but you can get some side cash from patreon and commissions. most people do smut, i've considered it but i don't think i'm fit since i work very slow and very socially incompetent (connections will make your life much easier if you want to delve in the artistic field, really) so i went with doing stuff for videogame mods and now original gamedev stuff. but with enough effort you can make it, and it's not even so skill-demanding depending on what you decided to go with.

3D is a very a ample topic and even kinda vague in the way you've mentioned.
>But what's the point of learning 3D?
it's fun. it's all about bringing a whole new layer of interactivity to otherwise static reference. and it's really useful in real life too, but that's a very broad topic to cover.
>Like what can you realistically do if you get good at it?
get a job in a studio. if you're really good, you can get a job in a big studio.
>Can the average person make a living out of this, or is it like 2D art where 99% don't even have a job prospect
since you narrowed it down to the artistic sense, no. but that's art in general.
you can make some side bucks from commissions and patreon. most people do it so by doing animated smut. me personally, i chose to pick up making assets for games and mods, but i do it mostly as an amateur hobby.
in the broader sense though, there are lots of average dudes making a living with it. most are engineers doing CAD work. they're the vast majority of people who work with 3D stuff as well.
