it's more that the direction will be pushed towards the other failure programs adobe make that attempt to entice people who are "scared by technical things" when substance's strength was technical superiority.

it's weird though because like all adobes programs that are most successful are the most techy ones, photoshop is by far the deepest image editor, substance designer is the deepest texturing program, after effects is the deepest compositing program for mograph, premiere ain't the deepest but it sure as shit isn't castrated. None of these are easy to learn simplified programs and those are their breadwinners.

But they always want to push stuff in the direction of their least successful products that nobody uses.

i don't really see much evidence for this outside of the marketing trying to appeal to amateur graphic designers (which helps their asset sales).

the new modelling tools in designer for e.g. would instantly turn off people who aren't technically minded.

>i don't really see much evidence for this outside of the marketing trying to appeal to amateur graphic designers
Because we've seen this exact same song and dance before. This is step 1 and they're revealing a push toward amateurs, every update to follow (which will be less and less as usual for Adobe, even by Substance standards) will focus making it mainstream accessible rather than improving the technical side. Shit like UDIMs would have never happened had they not already been in the development pipe as a promised feature when Adobe bought them because selling it to morons who can't into 3D at all will make them more than companies will.

Instead we'll see even more integrations for point-and-click "3D modeling" apps, auto-unwrapping awful UVs and and even stronger focus on drag-and-drop preset textures so every moron can be a 3D artist like the cool commercial said.

have we? i really don't want to be defending adobe of all companies, but i'd like to see an example of this happening to one of their power-programs.

i can see development becoming more incremental, but honestly that would have happened anyway. painter and designer are approaching maturity and they're too big now for any really radical changes to core workflows.

It's called economics.
If two stores sell the same memes, but Store A charges $5 per meme and Store B charges $1 per meme why the fuck would I go to Store A? That's right, I wouldn't unless I was; 1) retarded. 2) a consoomer simp with a religious devotion to a brand. 3) a zoomer.
Now lets take it one step further. Let's assume Stores A and B both still have the exact same memes in stock. Only, now, Store A doesn't sell you the meme. Store A rents you the meme for as long as it sees fit and you, basically, pay for it over and over again without ever actually owning it and hope they don't come around your house and take it from you. Whereas Store B doesn't rent it to you. Heck, Store B doesn't even sell it to you, Store B GIVES you it completely free of charge. For gratis. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Nothing.
So why do I go to Store B? A few reasons and I'll tell you them. 1) I'm not retarded. 2) I'm not a consoomer simp with a religious devotion to a brand. 3) I'm not a zoomer. 4) Because I'm a straight up no nonsense Chad with a capital C.

What I'm saying is you better stop being a retard and join the Chads. If they don't want their products to be discontinued because people pirate them instead of buying (renting) them (which incidentally has NEVER once fucking happened) maybe they should use a business model that revolves around ownership instead of glorified leasing. How many people do you know that own a house and say "G-d I wish I was renting this house instead of owning it outright"? Not a single one.

I can't blame zoomers entirely. Their whole lives revolve around renting instead of owning. Why own a movie when you have Netflix? Why own music when you can use Spotify? Why buy a car when you can finance it? Etc, etc, etc.
Project 2030 isn't being rolled out for Chads like me. Project 2030 is being rolled out for zoomers who've already been walking down the path their whole lives and not even knowing it. Certified cattle.

You buy from the store with the higher prices because of the prestige it gives you to buy from there, whether its real or not. Its like buying designer clothes or shopping at grocery store B instead of grocery store A because its nicer inside than the cheaper one. Grow up.
