No, just a shitpost. I'm have spent the past few hours trying to come up with a semi-decent render but I don't understand why my computer can't do it. Something as simple as three sculpted heads with a small light-setup is enough to slow my PC to a snail's pace.

I have never, in my couple years of blender, managed to get a render that looks realistic or aesthetically pleasing on anything. I always held the belief that the reason I couldn't is that I was shit at 3D, but in retrospect, when I see how my computer prevents me from using cycles, along with compositing, I am starting to think it might just be my PC that sucks

Got some questions about modeling farmer #1. I managed to make the pants connect with his under-shirt, and I am stuck on whether or not his overalls should be the same. Would it be better if his overall was attached to the undershirt? should it just be floating above the shirt mesh? I have no experience with animation or rigging so I don't know which would be the better option. I plan on making most of the model sub-dividable so it can be used for both animation and videogames.

The shrinkwrap deformer in Blender is garbage, compared to Maya where it (quad draw tool) just works.
Say what you want about Maya and its modelling tools, but there are things that work much better. Maya shits the bed in some occasions but overall retopo is much more comfortable and smooth.
I wish the BF would take a good look at their toolset and just fucking copy it.

there is fuckton of things missing before it compares to Maya's workflow.
Viewport behaviour for example. In Maya you just make the mesh live and use the tool and everything works - 2 or 3 clicks. In Blender its a nightmare.
And I don't say this to shit on Blender because I hate Blender, it's my main modelling tool and I like it, but I am not blind to its (many) weaknesses.
Retopo in Maya is so easy that I can do it drunk and half asleep. Its pure flow, not much thinking needed.

Works both ways. Imagine you work in a strict Maya pipeline on a super expensive blockbuster and you are totally proud of your work, but you have to do holding edges for SubD by hand all day on hundred of pieces instead of just dropping a bevel modifier on top with a hard profile and just take care of the cases where it doesn't work out.
The true master-race of 3D artists are those who know and are able to use any tool so they can always choose the best and most efficient workflow, sidestepping the shitty workflows that exist in any DCC.

second, how is shrinkwrap garbage when it does precisely what's needed?
third, you say a fuckton is missing, and then your only example is that it takes 2-3 clicks in maya to do what takes 2-3 clicks in blender (switch face snap, add a modifier, done).
fourth, if it's such a hassle, get an addon. there are addons for shrinkwrap and smoothing in edit mode. and then there are full-workflow packages like retopoflow (free, too).

The shrinkwrap modifier in Blender is better for projecting the main mesh on a guide mesh, because you can select exactly what you want to project and change it on the fly.

Maya's retopo is of course much better, it's such a simple and effective tool and yet, blender devs don't give a shit about it. Geometry nodes are a waste of time, they should focus on the missing core features first.

Alright, what do you guys use to optimize your viewport renderview? I tried lowering the resolution and downscaled the window significantly but it would either take a long time to resolve, or it was too small to make out any detail that would be helpful. In addition to this, my pc isn’t able to handle that many nodes being placed.

I often blamed myself for never being able to make a realistic render, but considering how bad my pc is, I feel I may have never been given the opportunity to make a realistic render in the first place. What do I do to make the best of my situation?
