🧵 C4D Veterans switch to Blender for modeling

Anonymous No. 838214

Toby Pitman, who made MILG11, which is the best modeling course ever, him and this guy just switched to blender, forever.

Is Blender the best modeling tool now?

They want to change all the modeling workflow to integrate cad

Max is still the best modeling tool. Tell me when Blender adds an edit poly modifier and allows us to target modifiers to anything (instead of shitty vertex groups)

No.

No.

3ds and Modo still run circles around it when it comes to modelling.

I did his course recently and this guy is amazing, I learned so much from him.

Honestly I'm surprised for the switch after this time but as long the tool works who cares. Some techniques are shared between modelling programs.

Is it for that sweet sweet blendlet tutorial money?
Or an aspect that is better?
I have some people say blender is faster to work with?

I use Max/Maya and Blender. I'm not a blendlet but I think Blender's modeling workflow is amazing. It's not as good as Max for this task but it's much better than Maya and much faster than Max in terms of productivity. I'm starting to use it more since they're finally fixing the horrendous high poly performance. 3.0 is already so much better.

modo is foundry now, can't trust a pirate copy unless you have an permanently offline computer.

max, by the time you are doing anything advanced with box modeling, you are better off sculpting.

quite alot of 3d artists who used other software then max, once their software went eol or stopped progressing moved to blender because the attention those packages were getting and the reason those packages where used shifted focus to blender.

blender currently has tons of eyes on it, some decent funding, and it hit a point where there is a feedback loop. It has largely unfucked itself as of version 2.8 and has further infucked and improved since.

Yeah sure good luck doing any precision modeling with Zbrush, cowboy.

anything you need precision for, you use cad, anything that doesn't need precision, you use sculpting.

CAD models are useless. Stop being a lazy fuck and learn proper modeling techniques.

they're not, because you can retopo them, but this guy is lying to himself thinking he doesn't ever need to model anything

Anonymous No. 838687

Why retopo them when you can just model them properly from the get go.

Sometimes it's quicker, sometimes it's not.

>>838688

Nonsense. There are so many different poly modeling techniques to quickly get the result you want. CAD has it's uses, but for game and movie assets you need to know how to actually model.

anything that doesn't need precision, you can sculpt with relative ease, anything that needs precision, use cad, your videogame ak does not need to be precise, it needs to look right and sculpting gets you where you need to be, if you need precision, cad gets you there a hell of alot faster then box modeling ever will.

>>838690
movie assets use cad for anything that would require cad to make in real life because its already assumed when going in that they will need a real prop based off the file, you generally also are working with real companies with real products so they will give you cads of those to use.

You are delusional if you think it's faster or easier to sculpt some hard surface objects with lots of straight lines and smooth curves.

You really don't know what you're talking about. Stop wasting your time spouting nonsense and learn to model.
