I've got a 3rd gen iPad, and I sometimes use it for Nomad Sculpt. I heard that the 5th gen ones are going to have Procreate support for texturing directly on 3D models, which would be very nice for the workflow. Is that available yet? If so, have any of you used it, and do you think it's worth working into your process? Wondering if it's worth selling my old tablet and upgrading.

Texturing is not available yet, release is probably around the same time iOS 15 gets released this fall.
It will also work on the 2018 iPad Pro, I guess that's what you meant with 3rd gen.
If you don't do huge scenes in Nomad I don't think there is much need to upgrade, I'd wait if Procreate texturing is even good because there is nothing out there yet besides a teaser.

Oh, I thought they were touting it as something that would only be possible with the new M1 chip. If it's available on the 2018s, that's nice.

Where did you get that info? I can't find anything myself. I have the 10.5 from 2017 anyway.

They only claim that it will perform well with the M1, just regular marketing talk, at no point did they claim to make it exclusive and they've been working on this longer than the M1 was released.
It will just perform best with the best compatible device, obviously.

They can still lock it to a particular version of iOS which will only be supported by the new model.
