Anonymous No. 839083

Are any of you cunts actually good at this?

Anonymous No. 839101

Sculpting has never been my strong suit, and I find sculpting on a 2D screen to just... suck. I can just about do it with a tablet, but I unironically achieve better results in VR. Or actual, physical, real life clay, for that matter.

I was able to teach my girlfriend to sculpt in blender in the space of a weekend, and she's substantially better at it than I am after being guided through the interface and tools.

Anonymous No. 839111

I was alright before I swapped to zbrush.

You will only find good blender sculptors if they're also freetards because anybody else who gets half way good moves to zbrush.

Every time I try to sculpt something, I end up fucking up the topology; so I just do low-poly designs and then I abuse of the subsurf.

Anonymous No. 839168

Carig about topology in sculpting is autistic, anon. Only veteran profesionals can sculpt with topology in mind.
This is why retopo exists

Anonymous No. 839177

sculpting is step 2 of my workflow after blocking and before retopo

my renders don't have a lot of detail, so i mostly use sculpting as a way to improve the shapes i've blocked

You're supposed to retopo after sculpting. Maintaining topology isnt feasible.

Anon, you're not supposed to maintain topology when sculpting. Thats why we have retopo tools

I think so, anon!
You have some good shapes going on, keep it up!

My main critique would be that the body does not feel like it fits with that head aesthetic you chose.

Perhaps add more sharp edges and bold volumes to the body?

This isn't a race, if the result is good and you didn't "cheat" then you are good. Stop finding excuses to self deprecate and accept you have made something of worth. Or I will FUCK your mouth.

Everybody has their own style and workflow, but sculpting is basically the last thing I do.
> Create a "draft" by adding default meshes with a minimal amount of vertices
> Create a basic shape/profile by transforming, adding or deleting vertices
> Apply modifiers
> Sculpt for details

I'm pretty sure you could make squid easily without even touching sculpting.

Why do people prefer z-brush? Is it easier or are there just more tools or something?

Anonymous No. 845394

>>844776
Because its 2.5D it performs better than most programs, despite the high poly counts, and as the industry standard gets a lot of support and plug-in help. Outside those two points it's a nightmare, It's fairly hard to learn and it's expensive, with cracks being hit or miss with whether they have all the features or not.

Anonymous No. 845399

>>844776
A fuckton more tools, not only more but better + 10 times better performance than every other sculpting program.

Its not, its just so idiosyncratic that you forget it the moment you no longer need it.
