Have heard that due to the GPL license, most/all blender addons have to be available for free as well on a github or something.

Is this true, and if so where the hell are the githubs or whatever for the big name addons?

Boxcutter, decal machine, hardops?

I'm literally just a hobbyist and I got blender because it is free and i am poor. I don't have 50$ to buy RE:Village and I have wanted it for months, of course I don't have 50$ for an ADDON to a program that I use because it is free. I dont even know if it would really be useful to me, so how can I at least give them a try?

That's not true, at all. There's nothing that says the code has to be available publicly on Github.
That's a fucking meme perpetrated by the fact that FLIP has a public github that you can grab the addon from.

Use the questions thread next time, there's fucking 2 of them, AND a dedicated Blender thread.

You are entitled to the code if you get the binaries in a legal way. So for example, if you buy them from the author, or a third party sends you a copy, then you can legally ask for the source code. This doesn't cover other types of assets, like scenes or icons for example, so these need to be licensed separately.

Go over to the CGP thread and see if some anon can help you find a copy.

Sure, but what I said is still correct.

...try cgpersia, the latest hardops and boxcutter will run on current blender version, 2.93, but the decal machine will deny to work because it has a library that was compiled for the 2.83 version(blender changed the python version), so, you can use it, but only with the 2.83 version ...

.. i recommend, to test this tools, like you mentioned, and buy them from gumroad or belder market(noone with a computer is realy poor, so fuck off), because people invested livetime into this, to make you modeling faster and easier!!

...freesoftware can only survive when people dont mind to pay for it! maybe not the very same day they got the handes on the software, but in the future, when the software made there work easier!

That's nice and all, but good luck putting it into practice or enforcing it.
It's idealism.

You can send any patch at all to Blender, have it accepted, and then sue them for licensing fees and profits if they refuse to provide the code free of charge.

If they don't do it within 30 days the Termination Clause of the GPL activates and every sale they make after that is illegal and they are liable for all revenue and staturoty damages.

I'm not exactly clear about what your scenario involves, but you cannot demand the code if you weren't legally distributed binaries in the first place. The GPL doesn't force the owners of the code to release it openly, only to provide it with distributed binaries.

blender plugins are just python scripts so the source is the binary. It is entirely legal for anyone who buys any blender plugin to upload the code publicly online if they so wish.

Right. But going up to a dev and DEMANDING the code of an addon for free under threat of lawsuit like an entitled neckbeard is pretty ridiculous.
Even if it's something that can be done, you can bet that most of the Blender devs and other parties would side on the addon dev rather than some cheeto-encrusted troglodyte trying to get something for free.

The point of the license is to promote openness, progress and discourse, not for pajeets to get their sausage fingers on shit they don't want to pay for.

It is, but good luck getting Blender fanboys to give their copies for free.

If I paid money for something, why would I want a bunch of Indians to get gibs from my generosity?
What do they do for me?

Ask Blender devs, there must be a reason they develop Blender and distribute it for free.

They get donations.
I wouldn't.

Definitely not with that attitude.

Yeah, I'm sure plenty of pirates are getting donations from leagues of pajeets.
I'm not giving you my shit. I earned my keep to get it, and you can too.
