๐Ÿงต Substance Painter vs Substance Designer

Anonymous No. 842878

What is the difference really and which should I get?

Are you retarded? Both.
Painter is to apply textures on models and Designer is to create them.

Anonymous No. 842880

designer is primarily a material creation/authoring program

painter is primarily a program to apply materials to models.

there's a miniscule amount of overlap, but they're completely different tools.

>Are you retarded
No
>Both
Slavfag so I can't afford it
>Painter is to apply textures on models and Designer is to create them
So I should only get designer and apply the textures in cinema4d
>>842880
Painter sounds like a scam then, is there something more to it with added features or just applying textures?

????????????????? Not even that anon, just scrolled by to witness a slav not utilizing his genes properly.

Sorry for being rude but this is such a stupid thing coming from you Anon
>rutracker
Based
>cgp
Sadly it's full

by spending 5 minutes on painter website you'd know that hand painting textures is just a fraction of what this software is capable. Map baking, ever heard of that?

oh, you're one of those.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT, WHAT HAPPENED TO THE 19,99$ DESIGNER?

It gets the job done for me far better than anything else2
>>842892
When is it going to start accepting new registrations, I can't go on like this bros I need tutorials

probably going to still be around that price on a steam sale.

>Map baking, ever heard of that?
SD can bake maps, and for a while it was superior to SP at it. but I agree, for someone willing to pay for software OP is weirdly reluctant to spend a second to read its description.

God bless you fren, I just searched for it on Steam and it's 150โ‚ฌ, definitely worth the price. Well it's settled I'm buying it
>for someone willing to pay for software OP is weirdly reluctant to spend a second to read its description
Cause I didn't even search for it, I knew it existed and wanted to ask here cause I didn't have the energy to search

Never.

I recommend if you're a poorfag and don't want to pirate, to check out armorpaint and material maker.
Which are FOSS clones of substance painter and designer.

Obviously wont be full replacement, but I've gotten very good results with them, almost as good as substance.

As for your question, substance painter is to paint your materials on the model, while designer is to create the materials using procedural nodes and create the masks you use as well in painter.

Yeah i get it, but if you are a slav like me it should be relatively easy to get a job in the industry so if I were you i would pirate painter learn it and build nice portfolio with it. Why do you need licensed btw? Is it freelancing or what? Just asking.

>it should be relatively easy to get a job in the industry
>>>And okay Mr. Anon you have a great portfolio, have worked on numerous projects, have your own youtube channel, animations, sell models on a marketplace and everything. Now just one question, what software do you use
>>>>>Cinema4d and Adobe Substance
>>>Ohh, so I take it you have a license, right?
See where I'm going with this?

just say yes. if they ever ask for proof, subscribe. money from the job should cover the cost.

This, I pirate when I'm doing personal projects and only buy monthly licenses when I need them for freelance work.

Anonymous No. 843387

You don't need substance designer unless you want a very special texture for a game, substance painter is much more useful. But if you DO know how to use designer it is a desirable thing to know if you're looking for work

>>843352
Can't you just do your projects in the torrented versions and save them in the legit ones ?

Anonymous No. 843421

>>843415
That's possible, but there's a chance some kind of watermark will still stay in the file. I only know one rule of a studio I was freelancing for, and that was if you get caught using a pirated software, you have to redo everything from scratch in a legit software. I assume the reason for that is exactly what I said, maybe something still remains in the file even if you push it through a legit software.

Maybe it's all a joke, maybe even a lot of studios are not sure but don't want to risk it, as I said, no clue. I'd rather play it safe in this case, don't want to get sued or blacklisted or whatever.

Anyway, I haven't seen anyone mention that you get an access to both Painter and Designer when you buy a license, so it's not like you need to make a choice what to buy.

Painter is mainly used for "unique models", like props. Designer is used to create tileable textures so architecture and all the ground surfaces will need materials done with it. Ofc, you can do both of these things in both software, Designer is kinda optional I'd say, but you HAVE to learn Painter. Unless you strictly want to become a material artist for example, then focus on Designer. It really depends though, this is just a very simple overview.
