Any opinions on Reallusion's products?
The tech seems impressive but the business model confuses me (export licenses, plug-ins that seem essential but need to be bought separately), also no genitals in Character Creator

Why on earth would you need them?

daz from what i heard
i'd give it a try but it looks jank and the genitals don't import well on a better looking software like CC

Doesn't CC use IRAY too?

from what i gather on their forum if you import a daz character in cc, the genitals will be recognized as clothing or something and the textures and animations will be fucked up
reallusion seems pretty adamant about not integrating them even through 3rd party

Isn't this the software that someone who doesn't do 3D posted a year ago saying
>it's going to revolutionise everything, your jobs are going to be gone
but in the end it could only make mutts? or is this a different one? kek

These programs are basically for people on a tight deadline or can't model/rig/animate.
IMO, they're pretty decent at making characters at a reasonable speed, but you would need to buy the additional plug-ins to make anything that looks nice close up (that isn't stylized).
The assets it comes with are nice, but you can tell they're more for games than rendering high quality stuff.
It works nicely with hairtools addon for blender, so that's a plus.
Nice for making NPCs for games.
You'll probably want to know how to use something like Marvelous Designer to make clothes, though.
It supports GoZ.
Overall, it's nice.
But it's more of a complementary program, so ideally you should still learn how to use Zbrush/Maya/3DS Max/Blender/etc to get the most out of it.

Thanks for the detailed answer!
What I mainly want from CC is to provide a custom human mesh with a good realistic face, textures and entirely rigged. The hair, clothes, accessories and animations I want to do myself in blender, marvelous designer etc. Guess I'd have to do genitals myself too. In your experience, is editing a CC character mesh in Blender (adding a body part) without messing everything up doable?
>you would need to buy the additional plug-ins to make anything that looks nice close up
Are we talking skin textures here? Base CC isn't enough to make something like OP's pic?

Depends on what you mean with messing everything up. Doing something like adding a limb can be a destructive process, so you should be comfortable with poly modeling/creating UVs/custom rigs and general workflow stuff
in short if you know how to create from scratch, CC can save you time
>pic related
yeah, that's possible without stuff like skingen premium, skingen premium gives you more layers to work with
if you know how to use substance painter/designer to create your own textures, you won't really need skingen prem

One thing i don't understand is that when importing a CC character to blender, apparently you need to use auto rig pro to rig him again, despite the rig from CC appearing in blender?? Why?

i think you're right
so they advertise fully rigged character but in fact you have to do it yourself if you use blender
i'm seeing less and less reasons to buy this

I don't usually reply to on topic threads because the discussion is valid and doesn't warrant it, but it seems appropriate here. CC3 and DAZ are useful for either building off of as base meshes to create further expanded models, to save time or to cheat. They are useful for learning when you're a beginner with anatomy and texturing because you can always just pop open a model or file and reverse engineer it. That doesn't mean they're the best, but they're the best entry point. Liken it to modding for games and then actually making games due to interest. But really, what they're actually the best for is to get rich quick, creating coom games which is, in my opinion, a viable option to execute if you're poor, amoral and desperate. Maybe a little talent thrown in there as well? Getting rich quick off Daz/CC3 models is still, even ten years later (though CC3 didn't exist back then) as simple as picking your nose. Right now, the markets for coom are terrible - the best games out there are still mediocre trash ran by lazy and sometimes inept individuals who got in early. Every single one. This coom market is not the best way to make real wealth but it most certainly is the fastest and can allow a generous slice of pie to any who joins.
All the net gains we see in the coom ips are below 10Musd. The market is actually tiny right now due to bad performance by current developers, and yes again, that includes the top performers. They will eventually be replaced by the coming Chinese and Asian American onslaught of traditionally exceptional coomer visuals alongside the sociopathic business sense they always employ. And if westerners can't step it up, someone else eventually will. The real ceilings for good coom games is above 30Musd for top titles for now, and it will eventually grow to 100Musd when we see real games and not the current garbage - Meaningless, inch deep puddles that execute areas of their games with failure.
Exceed mediocrity, and you will surpass them.

Aight, started fiddling with the trial version of CC3 and so far it really doesnt click with me, the model quality isn't as impressive as i'd hope and everything feels restrictive
If anything it's comforting me to keep learning polymodeling in blender and do stuff myself, i don't feel like i'm saving that much time

>it's comforting me to keep learning polymodeling in blender
it will save you time ONLY if you know how to polymodel and sculpt already
the biggest help you get from CC imo are the morphs, ideally you'll have your own morphs you made because you know how to sculpt/model then you have a library of morphs so you can mix and match
you can use DAZ for that too
avoid CC if you can't make characters already, this program is supposed to be complementary to your workflow, not a main part
same goes for iclone, avoid if you can't make your own animations/modify existing animations to your liking
This is what those programs will get you if you can't make your own shit

Thoughts on the other 'human creators' on the market then? Metahuman, MakeHuman, Human Generator?
