Why the fuck can softimage do physics sims in realtime within the viewport where you can jiggle around hair strands, while maya can't and it's 20 years older than it? i want to get deeper into softbobdy simulations, but if i can do this i feel like using softimage is the way to go.
I can't find any scenario where maya allows for interactive softbody lookdev within the viewport itself, and even with houdini you have to use vellum which is a recent thing in of itself. this apparently can be done with ICE in softimage. What the fuck is going on? i thought computer graphics were drastically advanced with the same pace as moors law, but from what i understand maya's ncloth or bifrost sims are not remotely interactive nor is houdini barring vellum setups which still run at barely 2fps.
How is this possible with ice? is it just approximating the behavior using point constraints in the ice actions? This is blowing my mind, it can do flames and bubble simulations fast as hell too. i figure the accuracy is low but even so, having the option do something interactive is great in of itself.

Yeah, Autodesk thought so too. This is why they bought and killed it so they didn't have to step up their game.

Physics hasn't changed in over 50 years.
