๐Ÿงต Boss wants things "nicer"

Anonymous No. 847830

I was hired as an engineer and have spent the week mocking up things in Fusion360 on my personal hobbyist account. Boss takes one look at my grey on grey pieces and says "I thought they'd look nicer." Points me to a competitor who obviously has a full time graphic artist polishing the output of full AutoCAD models put together from a professional aftermarket library, probably in a GUI tool like those "apartment remodel" programs. Building everything from scratch is going to take a lifetime, making it fully renderable about three. Even slapping some textures on these isn't going to make them look realistic. Goddammit I want to scream.

you don't have a job, cris.

Why don't you explain that to your boss?

I tried. One of the first things I said is actually building things and having a CAD library of all the things we can build are separate. I also tried to get him to buy highly detailed scans of several components we will be including but not making- accuracy to within 1/8" and all that. He said no and is making me guess at the measurements.

Basically this is what he wants but he won't buy the barrel, chair and table models.

Have you appealed to the costs? It's obviously more expensive to pay you per hour until you have all those models done, than to buy them off TurboSquid or whatever.

If he wants nice, just model stuff in a non-CAD program with less precise measurements and render it with a bunch of AO and reflective floors and shit.
