Take some psychedelics, sit in nature and meditate.
Watch a sunset or sunrise, listen to shamanic drums or Indian Sitar music or other tribal music that has a connection to shamanic tradition or simply relaxing music that puts you in a good mood.
Avoid music with vocals that express concepts, you want to keep your mind clear of influences. Vocalization is fine if it doesn't express content that you can understand - you can listen to Indian mantras or Buddhist chants for example, even if they contain concepts and words - you don't understand them anyway and they are made for this kind of work.
If you start on this journey the first thing that will happen is that all the negative shit in your subconscious gets flooded into your awareness - it wants to be heard.
Be prepared but don't get attached and dwell on negativity or self-pity - observe, accept, let it go and finally forgive yourself as well as others who have wronged you.
If you have the strength and if you heart is big enough, show your gratitude towards the shitty parts and the shitty people in your life.
Its a good exercise for building character to see all of it as an learning experience and using it to express gratitude.
This will take a while, but if it is tough and stressful, know that this is the first step, it is necessary and it will be over at some point.
This whole process will take care of your anxiety, depression and other negative emotions your carry deep inside you.
It is the difficult, stressful and ugly part, many people spent their whole life avoiding it but when done, it will feel like an cleansing for your soul and mind.

Continued
The first part is a test, almost like a mini Hero's journey. It will take care of all the negative emotions that you carry around with you.
It will also help to take anxiety, depression, nihilism and bad behaviour like addiction from you, because while you doing it you will get many insights about the nature of your consciousness as well as life itself. Be prepared to have very strong emotions, you might cry like a little child - don't suppress it, let it all out.
Once you're done with that, its easy sailing.
Now concentrate and remember all the good things and the good people in your life.
Again don't get attached, let them pass, but show your gratitude. Consciously express it, say it out loud if you want to make the effect stronger.
This process is not mandatory as it will not be pushed on your like the first test, but it is highly recommended to make the process wholesome.
If you are able to express your gratitude in words you might take it one step further and not only express your gratitude in absence of the people but make a plan to actually say this in person to them. The first part of the process take the ugly ballast away, the second opens your heart and mind.
By this point your awareness and perception will be very open, you will feel great, euphoric and you'll enter a truly high state of mind.
You can now use this state to explore yourself by asking yourself who you truly are and who you want to be.
This is where you can dwell on things that you want to do or ways you want to change. Dig deep and uncover your purest desire. Reinforce them by saying them out loud and vow to change yourself.
Also by this point you'll become aware of all the blockades in your body like stiff joints, past injuries etc.
Do some Yoga, Tai Chi or Chi Gong. If you don't know how - just pretend and concentrate on the body, it will do it itself.

You got your dark side covered, you got your light side covered, all that remains is your body.
By stretching yourself and doing some movements you get your Chi flowing, it may manifest itself in involuntary movements like mudras or even dance, let it happen and bask in the feeling of a free flowing chi.
It will make you feel like a god, you may even get a glimpse of you chakra system as you are doing it. Concentrate on it and let it shine like a Christmas tree.
If you get to this point then you've done it, you've been on an a spiritual journey, through the valley of darkness into the light.
At this point you can just lay back and enjoy the rest of it. Switch the music to some awesome shit and dance or do some exercises, enjoy the pleasure of being alive.
You'll feel like a newborn, you'll be free of things that pulled you down, you've earned a new chance to start anew, so don't squander it.
Remember the day and do better from there on. The true work starts the moment you hit baseline and you're completely sober again. The ecstasy and pleasure you felt will go away and the drudge and negativity of the normal waking life will pull you down again - you must keep your head high and follow your path.
The good thing is that if you struggle and fail and fall back into your usual self that is limiting you - you can do it again.
Now to the warnings: Don't do this if you have (lots of) cases of psychosis of schizophrenia in your family. Chances are high that psychedelics can trigger psychosis in people who have the genetic blueprint in them. There are other risks involving other mental diseases as well as physical diseases (heart problems for example).
Don't just do it - educate and prepare yourself intensively before doing it. Find someone who has done this before. Learn about set, setting and dosage and risk management. Start low, work your way up - it may take several attempts until you are successful.

Don't bother thinking up an end goal, those projects can wait 'til you're back in the groove. Just open your program of choice, and start fucking around, get weird, and see where you end up.
If you still need inspiration, try looking up natural language descriptions of extremely technical topics (i.e. 'the missile knows where it is, because it knows where it isn't').

There is also the option to do it with a traditional Shaman, there are many cultures where this kind of work is still alive and well and there are many that use other means, not psychedelics. All of these options are valid, some may be less effective though. But be careful and again research and do your homework.
There are many plastic shamans, don't trust these new age westerners that once went on a seminar and pretend to be a shaman - they are fake and gay and might endanger you more than they are able to help.
Traditional shamanism is the way to go, but even there are many fake ones that are only after your money.
Now I know how this all sounds and there will be people who will disregard this and argue that its about hedonistic drug consumption and call me and everybody willing to do it druggies and all kinds of things.
There are also practitioners of other spiritual practices that might want to discourage you (as they see it as a treat to their practice). They will say it is not "true" spiritualism or if they are Christians/Muslims they will babble about demons and shit, trying to get to you via fear-mongering.
Applied shamanism doesn't care about your feelings about it or your faith, the proof is in the pudding. It is an ancient spiritual practice (the most ancient of em all) and it works - you just have to do it. Or not - your choice.
It is not without risk (especially if you do it alone or with the wrong people) but the risks are manageable. Over the course of mankind's existence, billions have done it.
I have done it and it works. It is not a magic bullet that takes care of everything as it depends on your will and ability to work through things, but it is truly magically in more than one way ESPECIALLY if you desire to change yourself seriously and bring meaning to your life. Also the effect on creativity is unbelievable.
Godspeed anon and have a safe journey.

I am a central Eeuropean who grew up with Christianity but never believed in it. The idea of a God who loves me but has no problem letting me suffer for eternity in hell because I do not believe in him is a laughable paradox that I rejected as a 10 year old and I stuck with it.
Even if I wanted to believe in that God, i simply cannot, no matter what I do, my inner core/soul is not willing to let that happen.
I became an atheist but realized very quickly that a reductionist materialist viewpoint of the world is only causing me (and others) suffering, nihilism, anxiety, depression and moral problems.
So I studied all kinds of spiritual and religious traditions and I found a silver line of truth that goes through many traditions as if they all possess some aspects of truth, but often the pieces together make up a distorted whole.
I found Buddhism and Stoicism very helpful to deal with suffering and the fragile nature of human emotions.
I found Taoism and Zen very helpful in dealing with understanding the world ( or rather not attempting to understanding it but rather trust in it).
I found Animism/Pantheism as it is expressed in many indigenous belief system as well as Shintoism very helpful to put myself into perspective with the world and nature.
In my studies the topic of psychedelic medicine came up very often so I studied everything I could get on that topic which inevitably lead me down that path a couple years later.
Up to that point I intellectually believed that my indulgence in this topic was just an expression of my fear of death and subsequent escape from it by deliberately believing in some fairy tales to make me feel better about it. At my core the logical and rational nihilism of the western view of the world that rejects all kinds of "superstition" was prevalent and unmoving.

As a consequence I got anxiety, social phobia and depression. In order to cope with it I started to take drugs, but since I was well educated on the topic I skipped the more dangerous and purely hedonistic drugs that only make you feel good and rather started to take the traditional ones.
At first I tried shrooms and they did to me what I described earlier (it took some attempts before I got it). I was doing it wrong at first despite knowing better and applied a hedonistic approach because of my subconscious doubts.
When I took a stronger dose, they scared me shitless, but also blew the lid of my former belief system. They removed my depression and anxiety, even my fear of death, showed me a glimpse of what could be but only temporally - life always pulled me down to "normal" baseline. This loop went on and on for a couple of years; I was fucked up - took shrooms, got better, neglected my path and immediately fell into my stupid ways which inevitably fucked me up again.
One day I had enough of it, I asked the universe for an way out of my stupidity, the shrooms where sadly only a crutch that I abused and which couldn't help me because I didn't let them because of my unwillingness to apply the change in my life.
A week later I met an Ayahuasca Shaman.
Long story short: I went into an ceremony with him and he and the medicine showed me without any doubt left that the spiritual dimension is real, that the world is not only stranger than we imagine, it is stranger than we CAN imagine.
Since then the materialistic atheistic world-view left for good, I am no longer afraid of death, I am no longer afraid of life either. The cycle of suffering is no longer a thing that is forced on me, I am not necessarily in control, but I am content and relaxed whatever may come. I found peace and salvation from my own self-destructive mind.

I know no one asked, but to me, using other 3d art as inspo for your own 3d art is bad form.
You're better off looking for inspiration in other mediums because it has perspectives and subject matter that you're not likely to come across in 3d. Though admittedly I will use 3d art if they have a nice color palette that I can get ideas from.
I think the best place to find inspiration is from things that are way outside subjects that you're intimately familiar with. Since with familiarity comes complacency. Exploring concepts and ideas that are outside of that can lead you down new mental pathways that you haven't considered, and by trying to apply your own perspective to it, you can create something that's wholly unique to you, instead of something that's a regurgitation of tropes and things like that.
I'll probably catch some flak for this since it sounds totally weeb-ish, but it's definitely a way of thinking that I think the Japanese are pretty skilled at. Where you'll find something really creative done by one, and the genesis for it is something incredibly simple and from a place that has no connection to the end result (like gardening or bug-catching, or something out there like that), but still creates something compelling. Where Western-minded people tend to overthink and overdesign, and try to build off of what they know and are comfortable with.
You still get great things from Western artists, but I think there's a purity of thought that most people tend to miss out on by not considering things that are outside their wheelhouse.
tl:dr - The best places for inspiration is other mediums and subjects that you're not familiar with

>what mistakes to avoid
like with everything in life that you want to archive:
don't give up, never loose hope, don't accept a substitute, keep on pushing, if you fail/fall stand up and try again, don't let others discourage and manipulate you.
Keep your ego in check, if you're just in for yourself you are missing the point completely.
There is a reason why nearly ALL spiritual system put so much emphasis on compassion, selflessness and gratitude.
If you elevate others you will be lift up yourself - if you step on others in order to go up, all go down.
>>848116
My recommendation to use wordless music was mainly in context with psychedelic medicine work as this might get in the way and distract you. Human voices always trigger some form of attention (your subconscious is always listening).
But of course it applies in general too. If you want to use music as a form of direct inspiration, find something that triggers a form of trance.
A trance state is a state of consciousness where the power of the ego decreases, so subconscious thoughts can get to the surface of your awareness. The voice of your true inner desire is very quit compared to base desires - the ego is always louder, so shut it up and dig deep inside.
The other way is to use music that creates a strong emotional intensity in you which can drive/feed your passion for something.
Like you want to create something epic, listen to epic music, you want to do something sad and depressing, listen to music that makes you so.
Pretty simple.
If you have a goal and are in the process of working, don't use music that is too intense and that has the potential to distract you. It might also help to use something that has some kind of connection to what you are doing.
I was working on some SciFi stuff recently and I found this channel that does these relaxing Cyberpunk ambient music and it works great for me.
