Possibly, but it would probably be more of a review plugin type thing for now. We were seeing vr/ar sculpting in movies since cgi began but are we any closer to achieving it now? IMO yes but still got a long way to go.

I hope so, the sooner we can have a consumer product people enjoy using the better. The sooner that happens people will buy them up, competition will rise up, market gets saturated, things slow down but pick up again during the 'era of AR 2.0' when kids who grew up with it latch onto it, 20 years later everyone has tried it at least once and business booms.

Some aspects, if VR tech gets good enough, like sculpting would be much more intuitive to do in VR.
AR while modelling the traditional way I don't see happening as quickly. Even if it was as easy as just putting on some super light glasses, that's basically what 3D screens already offered and no one models with those.
I also don't see the entire workflow moving into VR unless a lot of it can be automated with AI, at which point we might get to a point where modelling just isn't a thing anymore at all rather than it moving to VR.

I got oculus medium a while ago and it's pretty janky and that's before trying to play it with Vive controllers
it doesn't even come close to sculpting in blender or zbrush, it's way too low-rez and the manipulation leaves behind weird deformations and artifacts that you need to cleanup, but doing it vr is really intuitive and easy, despite I think the best use for it is blocking out a character that you can retopo and build off of later

I think once there's a good vr sculpting program to use that doesn't require a bunch of cleanup after then I could see it being used in a normal modelling pipeline

Oculus medium is almost there however PC hardware is not powerful enough and since adobe did buy them ...

I did the same and I have to say VR sculpting and VR painting are far more intuitive for humans then using a 2D full of tricks to sculpt.

The only Problem I see is hardware modern consumer grade processors can not handle big operations.

The "deformations" you talked about are basically the result of using Voxels and a to low resolution all of this vanishes once you start using bigger voxels you can do this even in medium. Only the your graphics card will start making noise and every operation you make will make you wait to see the results.

Maybe software improvements can make it more efficient or we need to wait for killer hardware to arrive in 10 years or so.

AR/VR sounds like it could be good for modeling, but once the metal casing forms around your teeth and the edges begin closing, it will cut into them and eventually snap them off because of the pressure. Doesn’t really seem like much fun to me.
