not a doctor, you only care about the ones that lead to changes in form/silhouette or articulate the surface in some way.
Knowing anatomy means you can not only create good looking sculps you can rig and articulate them correctly.
Good coomer bait comes from only breaking shit for effect. (no internal organs, bulges) not from crappy sculpts or poor joint articulation.

What are some terms I should search for to learn how to understand how skin would deform along with the muscles? As in, the muscles have their deformations, but the skin on top would cover certain details in certain circumstances. If that makes any sense.

I've been drawing my whole life- actively teaching myself new techniques and mediums to express- I have done loose, sporadic study of anatomy over the years- But I am self taught, so feel like I lack a lot of the granular knowledge and true "correct" way the human body is designed. I have strong grasp on how the human figure overlaps on itself when depicted in 3d spaceand find it comes natural to draw this overlapping form to great result- This is one thing that 3d does not really help for me- It is more of a burden to match a 3d viewport/character pose than it is for me to just draw it from imagination. My mind's eye is skewed, imprecise on the way things should look. I found my visual language through trial error time and ignorance. and I really like that about my illustration. I don't seek error- But I know that when I try to use heavy reference or trace overs or anything, it feels very distant from what my work is at my natural
I just worry sometimes about truly learning anatomical form- I started study again this summer with 3 books that I've begun working through- I don't want it to steal my imperfect drawing

compared to everything else there is in a body

I dont know, you tell me? Maybe the fact it takes around 3 years of full time study and practice to get even half decent at creating realistic forms, and like 5-10 to really master it.
Anatomy will be something beginners are always shit at.

It's hard to find a source that's specifically for sculpting.

>anatomy for medical students
Infinitely more information than you need, many of the structures of the body don't meaningfully impact the visible shape from a normal viewing distance

>anatomy for artists
There's going to be a TON of time spent relating it to 2D via circles and shading and other stuff a 3D person is simultaneously going to know (if intuitively) while also have big gaps due to a lack of fundamental 2D drawing knowledge

Sorry, I only returned to 4chan now. I actually have a life. I shall now explain the trick, which is not that amazing anyway:

>>848609
>why are the breasts connected like that?
That's exactly the trick.

If you take a close look at OP's image, every part of the model is a separate object. The shoulders, the wrists, the breasts, the buttocks, the groin, the elbows, etc, everything is separated and not connected to the rest of the body.

Obviously, I know many people do it this way, but there are many others who don't and instead just "extrude" each new part of the body.
Others do start by combining multiple basic objects, but then they connect them to each other as soon as possible.

>Get an accurate base mesh file.
>literally put it side by side while sculpting.
>Use shiny matcap to figure out changes in form.
>copy it as best you can.

I only pull out refs if I really need it.

Yes.

If I can, I avoid messing with a character's proportions unless they're supposed to be distended or weird-looking. I made a couple character models for GMod once, and the heads (they were bonemerged onto an invisible player base), in spite of their height matching up exactly how they should, looked tiny. I spent some time to make it look less weird, but it's still something daunting IMO.

fuck. anatomy.

Anonymous No. 852746

You don't need to care about anatomy.
Modelling a body is easy.
If you can't model a body by yourself, just download a body from smutbase or sketchfab and copy it.

I'm a mediocre 3D artist, I've never studied anatomy, and yet people have never complained about my bodies, in fact the body is the one thing people almost always say it's good.
It's the face and the hair that are difficult to model, and those are the things that get criticism.

So don't waste time learning anatomy. It's a meme designed to make 3D beginners waste time instead of actually practising 3D.

These are the things that are the most difficult ones and that you should invest time to learn:

Modelling (or Sculpting) Faces
Modelling (or Sculpting) Hair
Texture Painting
Skinning/Weight Painting
