I don't get why so many people act like the people that live in million dollar homes have to pay utilities with a salary of $50,000 a year. You know they're rich, right?

>million dollar home
that's like a 60-70 sqm flat with a somewhat nice interior, not a million dollar home

Them walls could easily hide structural steel beams that would have no problem at all carry up that space.
Not like it has to be a wooden frame structure just because it mimic the format of one.
Not an efficient use of materials for sure but the assholes who build wide open spaces like this def exist.
I have a buddy who is a structural engineer who complains all the time about how retarded requests he keeps getting from
the architects employed by rich douchebags due to this 'open space' fad.

Oh and before anyone screams that it's probably a shit neighborhood or whatever, that's one of the most expensive cities in Massachusetts, which has one of the highest QoL indexes in the entire country. There is no excuse to live in California if your net worth is under $10,000,000

Can't put a price on the excitement of living in an ephemeral place that will cease to exist once the Cascadia megathrust happens.

Probably not, but the thing is this part here(pic related) that doesn't have a support pillar
>I have a buddy who is a structural engineer who complains all the time about how retarded requests he keeps getting from the architects employed by rich douchebags due to this 'open space' fad
Yeah there's a trick that I usually make, I suggest they make better place and more convenience, I'll post a screenshot of what I mean in the next post

That can be cantilevered out from the fully supported section further back, where the stairs join up. It's only like four feet, plenty of balconies like that.

If I lived there I'd want a column there as well just to make it look less like the place is gonna fall down and kill me at any moment. If I saw a structure like that this is kinda what I'd picture is going on in my mind. I'm not an engineer tho.

Yeah, even very old raytracers can do that if you dive deep enough and tinker with enough settings.
What you need to bring to the table to pull it off and what kinda rendertimes you can afford to twiddle your thumbs thru will vary a lot tho.
