I'm trying to add jiggle physics to an already rigged character by following this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mM8

Looks like he's doing basic spring physics. Make sure your scene is built to scale. Real world physics mass/gravity SI values in Newton and kilogram only work if your scene scale is built in correct metric unit size.

After failing to reproduce what he did properly I downloaded the blend file he used on the tutorial and tried to copy paste it's rig to my preexisting one, but the springs always get out of place so the end result is shitty

did you apply scale?

I tried applying scale to both the armature and the springs, the model I'm trying to get it working with is from smutbase btw

All your scales need to me zero'ed out (as in 100% size, 1 unit or whatever your software uses) and for your physics to work your model must be in the correct metric unit size.
If your transforms are scaled any rig will be all kinds of fucked. And your 'from smutbase' way either, just plain fucked.
