Are any of you stupid ugly people into photogrammetry?
I use a phone camera and it give me shitty results with lots of tiny artifacts despite giving me the overall shape pretty well. i dont particularly want to get a dslr as it is only an occasional hobby.
Im using a galaxy s8 several years old. Would upgrading to a more modern phone like s21/22 give me better results with the newer camera or is it not a big enough jump to make much difference

Software developer here. AR implementation from google has been falling apart for months. Program director quit too. Going with Samsung is even worse. You'd have better luck with Apple for photogrammetry, especially the ones with lidar sensors. Find someone with an ipad or iphone and try it.
I have the s21 and regret it immensely. AR is going to shit, the samsung is worse than my pixel 3 from 2018.
Official google phones are going to be the best, but even they are absolute shit compared to like an iphone 6.

I use an iphone 8s Plus with two camera lamps I keep charged- I don't have lidar or stiching software though, so I make an atlas with all the best pictures and then I UV with projections and manual refinement. The video lamps are what makes a phone camera much better- The phone lens is real small so abundant light is your ultimate friend. The phones will often rely on artifact-introducing low light boosts for normies to see their selfies clearer in a poorly lit room But this is bad for people who wish to take photo scans

I've noticed and thought about the brightness adjustments ruining it. I may turn off what I can related to that on my camera.
I only half understand what you mean about making an atlas with uv projections but I'll try to look into it.
At the moment I usually just do my best with my s8 cam, then have to go in and do a ton of manual refinement in blender usually with the sculpting and smoothing tools. I will try to get a better lighting situation as well, I have a well-lit airbrush booth so maybe that.

I used to use an old phone, I used an old Iphone, and I use my current GalaxyS9 for on the go stuff but I broke down a few years ago and bought a Panasonic G85. It really helps get the job done, I must admit.

Photogrammetry is a joke, the results are always shit.

That's because people are using a shitty camera and shitty lighting. Those are the two biggest factors.
