the problem for me is that it would likely be so poorly organized and since the people who actually can help probably have employment it will end up being over run by retards who have lots of free time, many such cases - i recently tried reaching out to the guys at installation 01 and it was a fucking embarrassment they where just makin 'muh halo for pc ummm' they have no idea what theyre doing or why theyre doing it. what a fucking waste of time
otherwise it sounds fun!

yes, maybe, depends, idk.

Obviously the only reason to do it would be for having fun.

I have been thinking about community projects with /3, I came to the conclusion that in order to get it to work there are some rules/suggestions one has to follow or it probably will never ever take off, not to mention being finished:
-it has to be easy and small / limited enough in scope that noobs can participate, people don't get demotivated by the amount of work, pros can do it while high/drunk/tired or otherwise handicapped - in short something that can be done with the least amount of technological effort and demand, but with ample possibility for artistic expression.
-it has to be something that is not too niche or special or degenerated in order to capture enough peoples interest. (or maybe it has to be perverted and degenerated?)
-the goal of the project itself must be flexible not too static in order to avoid necessity for an artistic leadership that controls aspects of it and therefore rejects work of participants and subsequently creates conflict, it should be anarchistic or rather self-organized.
-it must be fun to do rather than large amounts of work.
-it should be done in a way that it allows for easy data exchange in-between participants and all DCC's that are used so that people can easily exchange their stuff
-somebody has to put some effort in to organize it, not as a leader who takes control and barks orders (which wont work), but as a logistic supporter of the project.

Let me tell you how community projects usually end, some dipshits (usually the light weights) start whining non stop about Patreon, making everyone mad and disgusting the few heavy weights, who end up leaving because they have actual jobs and don't need intenets pennies.

not really. It was a failure.
If anything you should consider it an warning / example of how not to do it.
The project was never really finished, then some dude took/stole the assets, half-assed all of it together and pretended the end result was his own work and uploaded it on YT.
To top it off, the end result looked like crap and was heavily dependent on camera projection of details taken from the original 2D painting. He basically superimposed the original onto the 3D meshes.
This was AFAIK the last /3 community project and it has been some years since then.
I knew right from the beginning that it was a case of biting more than one could chew. If they had chosen a project with a smaller scope they could have actually pulled it off, considering the amount of work they collectively put into it.

Huh, thought it was cool they got to the likeness at all but didn't know the drama side of it. Though to be fair, I've only been in the 3d game about a year or so, my lore game is weak.

Been thinking about it and I'm not sure how to handle the overall management without a site, which I wouldn't mind setting up but will take some time to get right. The main issue is really maintaining a consistent art style across the project. I'd prefer it to be where anons can learn and work part of a "team" but at the same time it would be good to have a nice finished project.

you have to use Solaris and USD to manage group projects as well as having a dedicated pipeline TD.
