Just don't bother with Twitter. It's not worth it.
Everyone's out for themselves, and it's full of bots and trannies.
Focus on Instagram.

1. find something popular that is trending
2. shit out a 3d model extremely quickly
3. reply with the render to a popular trending post (10k+ retweets)

Instagram is full of leftists, which isn't surprising since it's run by a radical orange libleft democrat company.

That's Instagram too, probably with even more bots. Also accounts that reupload your work without linking back to you in any way and gain more likes/followers from it than you with your original post.

I've actually been considering this, seems the best way for you to make and have people to stop by interact, like a virtual studio open to others in a limited capacity.

Point is, I get more interactions from Instagram compared to Twitter.
I once did a test to see how things would fare posting things every day for 2 weeks on Insta and Twitter. Both the same content, both scheduled in advance for peak times, and with the same tags and descriptions.

Twitter, each post got maybe 2 retweets per post from dedicated bots that look for tags, and nothing else for the entire campaign. No followers, comments, likes, nada.
Insta saw 50-60 likes per post, several comments, and over the campaign got 40-50 new followers. Some of which even messaged for freelance work, repost permission, or permission to use in album art or similar things like banners/YT videos. Which also meant income from work and license fees, as well as a tiny boost in exposure from other accounts.

Instagram is full of lefties, sure, and it's full of bots and reposters, but I've had a much better experience on that platform than Twitter. I've also made a bunch more money on it compared to the $0 on Twitter.

What tags do you use? I feel like general tags like "art", "3d", "3dart", etc. don't do shit, but specific tags like software used ("b3d", "octane") and content type ("loop", "wallpaper") don't do shit either. Maybe my content is just shit.

It's ok you're not the only one, that's what I see the pros use and think why not. Our art may just be shit

I start with some general ones, and get more and more specific to give a good rounded list of tags.
I try to aim for about 15-30, but sometimes that can fluctuate depending on what's present.

As far as their performance goes, I'd say the most effective ones are the ones that closely match the subject/theme. So if something is a subset of a larger genre, the subset would be more pertinent. So, something like "cyberpunk" over just "Sci fi".
The broader stroke ones are the next one down, so those larger genre tags like "sci-fi", "architecture", "city" and similar.
The hyper-specific ones don't seem to do much, since most people aren't searching for colors or your exact composition or random miscellaneous objects in your scene. You get a tiny bit of people, but probably not many interactions.

The general ones that don't have to do with your work, but more the medium, like "3d", "art", the program used, and stuff like that are a bit of a mixed bag, but I've found it's better to use them more often than not. Most of the time it's just other artists tagging that sort of thing, so it's a bit self centered, but some people do search for those things when they don't have something more specific in mind. Not to mention tagging something with programs you use can sometimes have the benefit of the account associated with the program reposting your work for a nice boost. So tagging "#madewithsubstance" or something like that.
I've not had any of my stuff picked up and reposted by those types of accounts, but they have posted quite a few artists that I was impressed with and ended up following myself.
So yeah, it's a gamble, but if you've got nothing better to tag something with it's better than not tagging.

I should also mention that I fucking hate that I (have to)know all of this.
I hate the fact that I have to gimp the system, fuck with algorithms, and play the game just to get myself out there and get noticed.
I'd much rather focus on just making art than all the social media bullshit, but that's just the times we live in nowadays. A man's gotta eat.

I thought people who hired social media managers were a retard, but this modern day shit really does feel like way too much. Can't tell if we're better of than the old days vs now.

Fuck it back to sculpting.

OP here. It's cool that you know this, we all have to. There is a system to navigate, being blind to it is retarded and self destructive.
Have to say, I made this post at the gym, thought it would end up being a flame war. Thanks for all the input.

as much as everyone hates it, reddit is ok for advertising your stuff for views, only issue is retaining followers. i guess just upload regularly

You need to make a few posts on your profile then once your banner bio and page have a little something start posting meaningful eye catching comments on tags that have to do with your work. People tend to click your profile if you do. Do this every day for 30 minutes and you'll build a following.
