Why don't artists do soft-body modeling in NURBS anymore? The aesthetic is extremely clean and effectively has infinite resolution, with the parametric nature of the curves allowing for perfect adjustments instead of an ugly polygonal nightmare.

Not enough freedom at shaping it and it’s only mathematically perfect- displaying the surfaces still requires them to be converted to polygons, so the gpu gets equally fucked as with any dense mesh.

Because NURMS exist and does everything you want with comparative ease. If you've ever modeled something substantial with NURBS you wouldn't have any nostalgia for them.
