🧵 Zbrush VS blender
Anonymous at Sat, 30 Oct 2021 19:01:31 UTC No. 859206
So I'm a blender user and I just watched this:
https://youtu.be/UJ1-UfKfzh0?t=670
I wanted to learn Zbrush however the confusing nature of Zbrush was simply preventing me (Ztool, Ztool, Save Ztool, muh Ztool, Ztool, Ztool, Save scene).
You can literally not do this in blender.
Is blender the MS Paint of 3D software ?
Sure I can do whatever he is doing in that video however it will take me x20 times longer.

what do u mean?
blender has a great modeling system, literally one of the few workflows where blender isn't terribly behind industry tools.

Why not use both? if some things are easier in one program, do what you need to do and then go back to blender again.

>what do u mean?
Look at the video it used a time stamp 11:00
>what do u mean?
>where blender isn't terribly behind industry tools.
I literally can not bridge geometry like this. Sure you can create faces (when blender feels like it) however this is all I then would need to deform the created faces and add extra cuts to make them behave normally and this takes time, extra ways of creating geometry that are not in blender. .
>where blender isn't terribly behind industry tools.
Out of curiosity in what areas is blender behind and in what areas is it not behind ? In your opinion ?
>>859210
>Why not use both?
I will not stop using blender however the more I learn about what Zbrush can do I see what insane amount of time and money was sinked into Zbrush.
>some things are easier in one program
I’m a modeler so I do not give a shit about the other things.
>Why not
I did say that blender looks like MS Paint of 3D modeling and I stand by this. At first I was dismissing the other benefits like the ability to dynamically changing the resolution of a cylinder since I was thinking this is only fancy nonsense (you just decide the geometry you need in advance like a real man !).
Look at blenders bevel tool and this bevel tool.
Blender can not copy the exact beveling on other parts, Zbrush can.
See why it is MS Paint ?
You literally can not bridge geometry like this in blender. You can connect things vertex by vertex and then do something with this or hope some auto tool lets you do this (in only 20% of cases) however this level of fluid bridging is not possible.
In blender 3D objects are flimsy connections of vertexes that if opened and fucked up like this will fuck themselves over and even the repair tools (who are hidden BTW) can not un fuck this then you need to fix this by hand. You need to in advance be aware of this.

Menu, tools, saving, navigation. its so fucking obnoxious to use.
But the sculpting. its so smooth and nice to use.
So the way i do it to keep my sanity is to use GOB addon to move my sculpts back and forth with a click from Zbrush so i keep my interactions with the menus to a minimum.

Conceptually Zbrush was made by a contrarian german that labeled everything highly unconventionally.
Like it's made to just piss you off even when you know what you're doing.
Much like a car where you steer the vehicle with the gearstick like a joystick and switch gears by flicking the steering wheel left or right.
With some familiarization you can drive it no problem but it'll still keep pissing you off someone went out of their way to set it up like that.
It's not just some assbackwards interface. Oh the ass is there allrite but it's labeled 'face tool'
but it's not located where you expect the face nor ass to be, it is in the armpit. Only this armpit is located at the back of the third knee.
It's that kind of experience.

Yes Zfags you should be ashamed that your shit software does not have proper layers or objects and you think layering boolians on top of one another is an accomplishment, Do you do something as retarded as going Ztool++, Ztool, Ztool--? I have seen a fagot literally abuse hide object to delete something and did not realize everyone is laughing how retarded this is in blender you can simply hide or delete objects you have this list of objects you can manipulate and press an eye icon to hide it from view or press the delete button to delete it. Do not pretend Zbrush UI is not fuckend beyond belief and needs a serious overhaul. If you are not having 3 layers of boolians on top of one another in blender in your model you should reconsider stopping to use blender or 3D.
And all the shit he shows is nothing more then boolians used for decorations.
Also YIKES, Like 40 minutes after your time stamp the idiot clumsily stumbles trying to add a boolian to a model, YIKES.

>Sure I can do whatever he is doing in that video however it will take me x20 times longer.
Can you even read words ?
The MS paint example is perfect remember as long as you can move vertices and connect them you can model anything only it will take a long time. For example you can manually create gradients in MS paint only it will be x2000 slower then in GIMP. Blender is not this level of hardcore however doing this takes time and if you are modeling something this adds up.

Jack of all trades master of none. I only care about modeling. I already need to split parts of a model into separate blend files then copy hard join them and import into the main model file.

Parametric modeling is great if you are doing machinery and other things like this.
