How come a single dude made a higher quality animation than billion dollar 3D studios?

If you're a single man team, the only limiting factor is your skill and time. You have a vision that you can translate perfectly to your end result without the trouble of others misunderstanding your vision. You have full control of every stage of production.
One man teams are an inspiration to everyone. I'm one of many who wishes to create masterpieces like this while being too lazy to develop the skills to do so.

You think a solo man has time to make a 'behind the scenes' DVD bonus section with his work alongside the work itself? Get fucked!

Sure it has some strong visuals but it lacks story. This series is overpraised imo

A big part of it is the cinematography and the way he edits it. using camera work and a lot of speed ramping (fast motion, slo mo, fast motion again) to do a lot of the work in communicating motion so his animations don't have to be so complex. If you look at the animations they're all quite simple, he just edits around them well and the sound design communicates a lot of the weight and speed in the way the astartes move.
He also uses very monochrome lighting and a lot of chiaroscuro to hide the details, his texturing is nice on the artifact in the end but other than that I bet he saved a lot of time spent perfecting the wear and damage texturing by simply making sure it was hidden in the shadows.
Also I think 40k fans who liked the video just appreciated that he nailed how they are supposed to move and look, how they're heavy but still agile and fast, how the bolters look and sound etc. A lot of the time 40k CGI for games gets outsourced to some studio that doesn't inherently understand those things and they end up looking a bit like big plastic miniatures moving around.

Even in a billion dollar 3D studio you have like a handful of talented people and 500 drones that model flower pots for the background.

Price found out the following (now called Price’s law):
50% of the work is done by the square root of the total number of people who participate in the work.
In my example, that means 5 people (square root of 25) should bring in 50% of the sales. That means Price’s law is pretty accurate. On my floor, 4 people brought in about 50%-60% of the sales.

Ironically, communism leads to the same work environment of victorian capitalism on steroids, but you don't get to complain or else you will be shot after watching your family die.
