Anonymous No. 862475

I know this program has been used to make a lot of porn, but how is the scene today? can new people still makes renders or lewd animations on this software for commissions? or are there better softwares for that kind of stuff nowadays?

It's a pain in the ass, but people use it to see results instantly

Do you have link to this program anon ?

SFM was always a pile of garbage and everything from Maya to Blender has always been better, it's only retards that can't be bothered setting up their own models and dioramas that use it religiously

Oh, you're one of those.
Nevermind, keep using SFM all you want.

You're unironically NGMI if you fall for the software wars meme.

He is also unironically NGMI if he falls for the "its all about the artist, software is irrelevant" meme.
As always, the truth is somewhere in the middle in-between the extremes.

>Using a strawman to cover up for his NGMI
The only way a beginner artist could end up using the wrong tools is if they're deliberately going out of their way to use software nobody recommends.
Unless you're a seasoned veteran or in a highly niche field, you aren't ever going to hit the constraints or limitations of Maya, Max, Zbrush, Blender or Houdini.

you are god. you might not realize it yet, and neither do the people around you (even your loved ones) but you have unimaginable power and, in time, will decide the fate of the universe. what you need to do now is accept that nobodies life besides yours matters. everybody else is just an empty vessel. you are all that is real. you are god. all others exist to serve and bow down before your power. and you will make them.

It's fine if you want instant results that look passable.

Just don't expect anything better.

Also, expect it to stop working one day, because Valve no longer maintains it.

yes, it's really not hard to be, sfm hasn't seen a real update since 2014.

Its the perfect program if you want to skip making a "map" and modeling/rigging/texturing models and just want to get into making animation. This is all allowed through Valve's steam workshop. Not sure if "steam workshop" exists for Blender yet, but I would love to hear if something like that does.
Admittedly the program has effectively been "partially abandoned." There is a version of Source Filmmaker in the workshop tools with valve's Half Life Alyx game and allegedly the program is basically Source Filmmaker running in the Source 2 game engine.

If I recall correctly it manages to still technically not be any better than the original source filmmaker because it lacks some of the features that the source filmmaker has. The advantages and disadvantages that the Source 2 Filmmaker has should be documented on Valve's development wiki.

There are some people that still use that program mostly because despite all its crashes I think it is less resource intensive than Blender, and to an extent the limitations of the Source Filmmaker are a bit of a "hard cap" on how much processing power the Source Filmmaker can use on your PC. Also I am sure that they started when they were kids and its the program that is your best option. I think the Blender UI can be configured to be more familiar to the way the Source Filmmaker's UI is if that will help.

Also there are some anons that just love the way that the Source Filmmaker renders objects and lightings evidenced by one anon in the Blender general who asked about it and got a wake up call when someone pointed out that he has made zero progress on such a thing.

good, thanks for the info. I'm gonna get started with it since I just wanna get a general feel for 3d animation at the moment.
