Does anyone have good tutorials on the process of making robots? I see nothing but small techniques scattered around on youtube but never a full blown process video that explains the thought process used to make said machinery/robots.
People always say to use simple block-ins but how am I suppose to breakdown something like pic related?
I just wanna make cool robo knights

There tons of video on that with drawing, if you're interested in thought process you shouldn't try to stick to 3D related videos as it's irrelevant.
Also, just get inspiration by others, something like your pic for example is heavily inspired by Warhammer 40k.
Collect images of ''cool robots'' you enjoy and study them.

You need to draw.
Pick up a goddamn pencil and draw.
Thinking you're going to find a "tutorial" to "make a mech" is retarded.
The "thought process" you're asking for is how to break down complex shapes into simple ones.
You guessed it, you need to fucking draw.
I hear dozens of wanna be 3D artists who always ask whether they need to know how to draw in order to succeed as a 3D artist while wanting to become character artists.
The answer is YES YOU FUCKING DO. But the one they always get is "noooo, you totally don't, don't wowwy!" from the failed cunts trying to sell them their 3D course of whatever.
Yes, you need to know how to draw even if you're a fucking rigger.
How do you pretend to become a 3D artist by completely neglecting and outright pushing away the simple notion of drawing is beyond me.

I'll try the 'traditional' way of how I do models. Which is just drawing up references, blocking them in, and deleting/adding details in the end when I fire up the subdiv modifier.
I'll do my best and I'll post my final result even if its shit

You could model hard surface with knowing how to draw by reading blue prints.
But yeah everything that goes beyond specially organic and anatomy drawing is a needed tool.

It's called C++
Or any other programming language for that matter.
