What is the worst tutorial you've seen/advice you've been given?

it really is pretty exceptional in how many ways this is wrong.

Like having UVs on your zbrush model can be very helpful for noisemaker and other functions like that, and also exporting vertex cols out of zbrush for rendering in other programs is not really a problem at all either lmao, just decimate and go. For personal sculpt projects I just send it straight from zbrush to marmoset most of the time.

The worst advice I've been given is to use CGP. The software there is infested

Not once have I had a problem with it, or any torrents anywhere, ever.
If you use good judgement and read comments and check out different links for the same software, it's quite easy to download things without issue.
It's exactly the same as any other torrent site.

if you're too dumb to pirate effectively then lord knows how much trouble you must have with actually learning 3d

Literally everything on youtube, or worse, the gay ass pay-sites.
The meme is that in 2021 there's much more readily available learning material than a decade ago, but the reality is that 99% of the "extra" material is just a 15-second "advice" stretched into a 10-minute-long video just to qualify for ad money. And more often than not, that tip is either outrageously wrong or misguided.
It's the same thing with Blender and increased computing power/cheaper components: barrier of entry is underground, but the ceiling is as high as ever.

>Literally everything on youtube

not true, plenty of fantastic substance designer, zbrush and maya tutorials out there that cover aspects correctly.

>Blender

oh sorry

Excuse me? Not only have i earned more with 3d than 99% of the users on this board but the fact is that the programs you actually need in production are not on there.

lol yea Blender is the worst, the "how to delete the default cube" type of troll "guides" probably have more traffic than the few genuine ones.
but it's not like the rest is much better.
the truth is that the useful knowledge isn't easily marketable. The knowledge you need may be in a vimeo video about how to fetch and edit maya skincluster stores bind matrices so you can edit skinned joint placements via script made by a senior industry pro with a grand total of 4 and a half views.
much easier to sell a video titled "HOW I MADE MY OWN AMOGUS CHARACTER IN BLENDER AND UNREAL ENGINE 4 AT 3 AM (GONE SEXUAL)" instead and get a million hits so your brain makes the chemical.

What the fuck are you talking about? CGP has a fuckton of industry software. That's kinda the whole point of it.

Sounds more like you're just a retarded kid.

>substance designer on youtube
And thank god for that. After Adobe shut down the forums at Allegorithmic and moved the subreddit, discussion of that software fell of a cliff. The official forums are designed more like a bug report/troubleshooting database. The official "Substance by Adobe" subreddit has 1,200 members compared to the closed Allegorithmic subreddit, which had about 10,000, and they were much more active.

It's a shame because their company was as good as Pixologic in how they interacted with the community. I've spoken with Vincent and Wes multiple times and they were always helpful.

The ones where a respected youtube 3D modeling tutorial guy with lots of decent videos tries to explain something he has seemingly no clue about and all his casual fans eat it up

God I wish, UVing bores the fuck out of me. Wish Ptex wasn't so obscure in its applications.

CGP doesnt have what I need. I'm also old enough to be your dad. How many years have YOU been at this, kid?

How about you buy your industry software with all the money you made instead of whining about getting your shit infested on a fucking 4chan 3d hobbyist board?

I did buy!

Not the other anon, why are you complaining about CGP if you own the software? You have no reason to go there if you have legit licenses.

I just turn my brain off and leave streams running while I work. Perpetual tedium. AI UV mapping can't come soon enough.

Dude's just being a bitch.
He probably doesn't even have a CGP account, and is just going full-on sour grapes.
