🧵 Untitled Thread

Anonymous No. 865672

I have almost everything complete for my game, but my player character is a free Unity asset. I'd prefer it being unique before showcasing/releasing on Steam. Are there any recommendations on where to go to for outsourcing a rigged model? I see profiles on Artstation all the time with the Freelance tag, but I feel like contacting them unsolicited might be considered rude. I'm surprised /3/ doesn't have its own job board. I could post a job on Artstation for $150. I just want to know my options.

Damn u are socially autistic person I can tell. So, yes you have to move outside of your comfort zone and ask if freelancers are willing to model shit 4 u 4 150 bucks.

Anonymous No. 865965

You ain't getting shit for $150 mate. Specially not in ArtStation. Go to Fiverr and check pricings to get an idea of how much something like that would cost you.

I'm not offering to pay someone $150. Artstation's fee for posting a freelance job is $150. I'm well aware I'd be paying a thousand or more.

I'm looking for someone to do a sci fi character model like Halo or Warhammer 40,000. It would be a base body and then 4 or 5 armor pieces like a chest plate and boots. I can supply the basemesh I'd like to be used.

OK.
Show what concept you want.

>Warhammer 40,000
You will either deal with my art style or deal with the GW lawsuit on your own.

I can do it for you.

This is a robot I made.

Your comment is weird, you say you dont have your MC rigged and that's all you are missing, but that implies the only rigged character in your whole game is your player character.

Aren't you the NURBs guy?
Nobody uses that anymore, in videogames atleast.

Yes, other than that you're dead wrong.

design, modeling, texture, rigging, & anims if not using a pre-supplied skele, for something like that will run upwards of atleast $12,000 at lowish industry rates.

Anonymous No. 868853

>>868827
Yeah, people use NURBS for other purposes. But what i don't get is, the guy said he could make the video game assets for OP, but his models are all NURBS. So they're pretty much useless, right?

Thanks for the price quote. It's helped me put my project in perspective. If it's really gonna be that expensive, then I might as well pay the $150 to get access to Artstation's job board. That's a drop in the bucket compared to $12,000.

>I'm a sucker for Halo 5's character models.
I inform you that IP law is deeply problematic and game companies have a tendency top do lawsuits over things that look to similar.
https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-04-12-ea-accused-of-copying-warhammer-40k-tanks-for-command-and-conquer-tiberium-alliances

So even if I have full recording of me modeling it from zero it means nothing since MUH COPYRIGHT HUH IP.

Its like owning a shape and is retarded as fuck.
There are things that are in the the public domain that everyone can use like the hysterical domain of knight armor design.

I can try to model something like this however I need to know how close to this you need it to be.I was thinking if I slap a astronaut helmet on that (like the suits in Star Craft) remove the back things and add some shoulder pads we can have something that is unique.

You need to answer if you want my art style or simply a modified copy of halo designs and you deal with the possible lawsuits on your own (this is no joke).

Also what detail can I work with ?

>I like your robot. Reminds me of those early Scott Cawthon games with the robot metal monstrosities.
Thanks I was inspired to model some 50s SF robot and came up with this. See picture for the 50s style.

I can do more advanced tech.

Anon let me break it down like this.

Their are stages of character design and creation much like everything you make,

-refrence/ insperation

-genreal antaomy of the shape ( big arms, small shoulders, big ass, short, tall )

-prototyping

-go back to step 1

You do this until you know exactly what you want but more of what you don't want.

Now lets say you figure that out now most 3d artists are going to ask for some art work of your character, take VR chat/Vee toober creators who will only touch your character if they have a high quality 2d full colour render.

Now i don't think you need that for your character but thats juat an example of what some artists may demand.

Most artists are monkey see monkey do who will only make what you give them, their not some creative genius who will imagine a whole character for you.

My advice is look at concepts of this halo/space marine you want and think exactly how you want lets say the helemt. If it should be triangular or square, fully round like the onion knight from dark souls etc.

Honestly, literally anyone can make a halo/warhammer-ish model and not get a nasty lawsuit. No one can just "copyright shapes" like you said before, that's just not a thing (yet).

Seems like you just don't know anything and you are using that as an excuse.

That's reinforced by the fact that you're apparently using NURBS to make videogame assets (???) , like >>868800
pointed out.

Fuck right, you'll need to comb through plenty of 3D artistes until you find one that has time, will and desire to freely make stuff, else it's find/hire someone to do the concepts so the 3d guy can finally work.

all you need to make a character is basic knowledge in uvs, textures, animation, rigging and sculpting. All can be learned within a week in Blender, a free software. Heck you can use a free shader and no one is going to notice.

I'm going to bite.

I'm currently the Art Director for an undisclosed game on an undisclosed company, I've worked on several already released games that have made money in the millions, and I'm always looking to broaden my skill set and portfolio.

Not only that, but I can do entire characters in as little as a month, depending on what you're after, and you will be getting actual AAA Quality from someone with real years of experience in both 3D And Gamedev industry.

Will also do LOD's, Drawcall reduction, optimization and more if you need, which is something I do a lot and have an entire pipeline dedicated to this, using actual industry standards.

So, hit me up here or on Discord, so we can have a chat

Reply to this one, so we can get in contact, my pricing is also extremely fair for my skills.

>>869175

Also, this; >>868843 Is outright false, :) Said by someone with absolutely no actual experience in the professional world outside from some comments or posts he's read online.

In my beginning I rigged, modeled and textured characters for as little as $300 Per character to get more hits on my portfolio and more reviews.

But what can you expect when 99% Percent of 3DCG Posters are people that don't live from doing 3D, Much less from game development.

Anonymous No. 872393

>>868397

Man, how many years of experience do you have? For this I'd consider you a huge Junior, less than $400 A month or something to hire someone with more skill than you.

>>870039

You're quoting something from 2012…

You've never done any gamedev work, have you? Let's have a chat man, I'll help you get better.
