yes get the good laptop, definitely avoid the bad one

yes but it will be very uncomfortable and the render could take hours plus the laptop will turn into a hot grill
but if you still want to give it a go, make sure the screen is at least 1080p and it has a decent GPU
also get a mouse

Nah. There is a little known hardware chip on desktop PC called the 3D CG Hardware Chip (3dcghc bridge) that make it possible to create 3D art. Unfortunately, all laptops lack the 3dcghc chip. Sorry.

yes, that shit usually is basic geometry and array modifiers and duplicated peebles.

You could, but don't expect it to be easy or without compromise.
Is there a particular reason you want to use a laptop?

Don't people usually use photoshop afterwards anyway a lot of the time? There was an anon on here who used to make sci-fi things like that and they were top quality. His animations of them were great.

Just don't buy acer laptops, I got fucked again with a predator helios 300. I mean it's great and powerful and I can even use basic raytracing in unreal with it, but they abandoned driver updates for it literally immediately after release. I knew that was a problem with my old acer but I guess I failed to research if it still happens before buying it. Everyone was praising it, but for some reason nobody mentioned that.
T b h I have no clue if that's the case with other laptop manufacturers as well (at least I know it isn't with MacBooks), but it sucks because, even if everything works fine for me, there are certain things which require newer drivers which I can't install, e.g. I wanted to try Arnold GPU in the past and couldn't use it because my GPU drivers were too old.
This is one of the reasons I thought about possibly switching to a macbook some day in the far future, but currently it still isn't good enough for 3D apparently.

Real artists don't use photoshop after rendering

I used to use PS for post, but then I realized that most of the work I was doing in PS, I'd be better off doing in the render in the first place.
The better you can make your initial render, the less you have to do for post and the more solid your concept will be. This goes doubly so for animations. You should aim for a nearly finished frame coming out when you press render. The more you have to do in post, the more work you have to do, and the more time you have to waste compositing all of it.
Not to mention it's easy to mess around with and push values/colors more when you're not limited to rastered images.
About the only post I do nowadays is basic color correction and levels adjustments, and those can be done inside the program on-render.

It's literally impossible to create art like that with a laptop unless you download more RAM.

k. what do u think of this setup?
- Intel i5 10400F
- NVIDIA GTX 1660 SUPER
- 16 GB RAM
- ASUS PRIME B460M-A
any opinion, guys?

Shoot for 32-64 gb of RAM- you'll often need it. I am rocking a 1660 super , and its been reliable for me the past 2 years. good card

This can be true and often is the best approach, but it is also the wrong approach for many cases....
>About the only post I do nowadays is basic color correction and levels adjustments
That's nice and dandy, but you are simply right, you don't need a compositing program at all because you are not doing any.
But that also means that you shouldn't advice people about something you don't do in the first place.
>The more you have to do in post, the more work you have to do
Wrong. The more you do in post, the more control you have in post and if used correctly, it makes everything faster, some things easier and ultimately gives better results. ESPECIALLY when doing animations.

definitely this. alright ones are not bad. okay ones are alright, but good ones will get the job done just right depending on things and such

It's definitely not a once size fits all solution, but there's literally nothing wrong with having everything looking as best as it can be before you render it out.

If its easily possible, sure. But if you spent much more time with it and cold have it done in minutes in compositing you're a fool for doing it the hard way.
