🧵 1 year progress

Anonymous No. 867169

Progress thread? What took me days i can now do in half a day, at much higher quality. The scary thing is I didn't use ACES on the left and if I had the colours would literally pop off the screen

don't screencap, enable the ai denoiser in preferences so that you can activate it in your render

here is a quick ACES variant. Notice how the colours "pop", with zero extra effort. If only I had taken the ACES pill earlier...

you're right. I didnt do my best. I had forgotten to paint a roughness map. Here is the new result. Much better, and that was just with broad strokes and no pore detail masking.

that's not what ACES does.
this is probably too technical for you to understand but read these please.

and yes, read the first link first, because it clears up some misconceptions present in the second link

I go by what the official Pixar youtube channel says about ACES. Billions and billions in revenue and here is their stance :

>"once you discover working with ACEScg you'll never go back because your renders will pretty much instantly look much more photo realistic"

https://youtu.be/TASCNvMwu70?t=97

That being said, I am working in cycles x but am sorely missing the benefits of pixar's bump roughness node

and here is my true apples to apples to comparison on the same exact model, from the same camera angle with the only difference being ACES, a painted roughness map, and a switch to the principled hair shader. I'll have to put this into all my work from now on. I feel like I have achieved near photorealism and once I get my new computer and switch to renderman in maya I'll get even closer with the bump roughness node which pixar says they use everywhere. Now I just feel like I rushed the OP image
