3D Coat seems like a really powerful tool that can do a lot of things but for some reason I've never seen anyone use and would rather pay for like 30 different licenses to do the same thing. There's also no good tutorials about character creation mostly just environmental stuff.

You've never seen it because your eyes are closed but what you've definitely seen is work made with it

It's mostly popular in the games industry

Search by software: 3Dcoat on artstation, it's the standard for blizzard, riot and many other companies that trade in stylised

Anonymous No. 867986

>>867981
i dont consider blizzard or riot to make very good work except for d2r which is a completely diferent art style than what you are referring to and from the looks of d2r on artstation it was all done with zbrush and painter

The only real arguement for use. Uncanny valley has been a very tall hurdle for higher res true to life shapes. Making an UwU Animu bunny people wanna fuck is pretty easy. Making a realistic rabbit fuckable digitally is a challenge, or the furries would've moved on to the nuLion King or the jungle book. This rhino's smugness should not go unnoticed. We should watch their careers with great interest.

Anonymous No. 867992

>>867991
I hate to burst your bubble but the zbrush demo rhino is much more realistic.

yes for realistic stuff you wanna use substance, 3dcoat is the king of stylized, this is not in contravention with anything I said in my post.

only weirdos actually sculpt in 3dcoat most people use it to retopo/uv/texture stuff made in zbrush.

I will try it since Zbrush seems to have completely stagnated development wise, not to say died.
Been using zbrush for 10 years now and i have to say its been pushed to its limits of what it can do in production 5 years ago.

Still cant do more than 50mln poly at any reasonable performance poly due to memory bandwidth limits while other software catches up. Does every fucking model need color and normal info? Thats easily double the polycount by cutting those 2 alone, but nope, god forbit we get per mesh data input options.
Still no paint layers
Still no native support for fbx format and proper uv support
Still not using proper metric scale, and instead relying on zbrush abstract "units" conversions based of the mesh bounding box that fuck with your scale
Still no proper polymodeling tools, good luck clicking 100 things every time you switch zmodeler mode
Still no gpu support, its baffling they dont allow for pbr, shadows, real time depth of field or anything at all, once the vertex color, normal and position rasterization pass is done on the cpu what the fuck is the problem to allow the gpu to do the rest?
Still no retopo tools that work

At this point im willing to try anything, and not only me, half my studio is looking for alternatives, i dont think a single person here is happy with how zbrush devs piss in the face of proper integration into movie/game pipeline. Even fucking exporting it to substance for baking by name is a problem since you have to know to disable auto mesh renaming zbrush has on by default.

Of all the little autistic decisions taken by the Zbrush devs, this is the one that really grinds my gears. I'm glad that everything else, including blender of all things, is catching up because I can't wait until I can get rid of zbrush holy fuck.

Its ironic that its the only software with a half decent baker

Baking like retopo is something all big packages be it Maya, Max, Modo or what ever completly ignore and pretend isnt the extremly important part in modern 3d workflow.

yeah too christian for me and it's only shilled by concept art faggots because they can't zbrush properly and they ironically use blender. Funny enough the 3dcoat dev is too stupid to use zbrush yet intelligently retarded to make his own software based on his beliefs that software is to be used for the betterment of mankind kek, he made a very convoluted UI that surpasses that of zbrush lol. Don't care if they already fixed the TOS years ago, the mark they left is still visible to this day with non-existent tutorials and poor documentation to boot.

First 3.0 impression, volumetrics slower than 2,9, but I figure that may have to do with new settings, noise settings etc that is not setup unpar with 2,9, so it may be faster.
haven´t checked much else, must test hair and other stuff.

For blender in general, and me doing clouds, I can not be as productive with volumetric noise cloud field planes, as I can in Maya, the reasons are partly due to blenders downright HORRIBLE fractal texture system, and the fact it´s easier to setup falloffs and density with V-ray volumetrics.
