How important is fixing "problem geometry" if you're going into character modeling? Hard surface modeling kicked my ass. Every time I beveled an edge, I'd get problem geo, which gave me points off of my assignment :(

There is no discipline of 3d in which you can be a lazy cunt and not bother learning anything

That's not exactly fair. The guy never asked if he could get through 3D modeling without learning anything, he asked if he could get through it without learning good edge flow.

I think problem geometry is always important to fix, but it's most important to fix it when you plan to animate the character.

You don't need to fix it as a prop monkey, but you'll never be trusted with an important asset.
But you won't get to be a prop monkey. Pajeet will get the job, you won't.

step 1: triangulate to get rid of self intersecting faces
step 2: look at how many unnecessary internal faces you got
step 3: cleanup
step 4: rework your clean topology
