How do you guys rig? I finihsed this yesterday with like a million vertices, tried rigging it from some yt tutorials, crashed. Spent the morning down it to a few tens of thousand, thought low-poly would work, crashed. Ctrl + J, maybe a single mesh would work, still crash. Any help is appreciated...

If it's crashing when assigning automatic weights, stop assigning automatic weights.

It's probably getting confused by some scaling issue or some area of geometry that its calculations don't like. Object > Apply Scale on both your armature and then your mesh might make it work, but honestly, automatic weights probably aren't what you want on a model like that anyway.

Too vague to give any advice.
Judging by your screenshot you are using Rigify. So the crash is in fact related to that third-party addon. Why didn't you mention that?
Also, you don't need tutorials for this. There is no actual "rigging" involved here.
You activate Rigify and make sure that "auto run python scripts" is checked, you adjust the metarig, you press Generate.
If it crashes, print a crash log. Otherwise helping you is impossible.

As I can see, you didn't add the controling bones to the skeleton. Knees, elbows etc. Stop spazzing out, and take some time to learn the basics.

Most of the frustrations comes from the fact that it differs so much from my initial expectation going into this. Thought it would be something like "I got the meatsuit now, just put that bone in and move, wallah!"
