๐งต Pursuing 3D or a degree in Architecture?
Anonymous at Wed, 5 Jan 2022 21:09:28 UTC No. 874086
Hello Anons, a year ago I took a gap year and in that spare time I picked up Blender. Over the summer I found I was able to make stylized work relatively quickly that began to take some traction on social media. Also I just enjoy making 3D art. Then in the fall I returned to school and started my first year at Architecture school. I wanted to keep maintaining my social media presence so I kept making my 3D art on the weekends or in spare time throughout the school week (even made some commissions for people). I haven't been completely enjoying myself at school and the thought has come up many times to stop school and develop my skills in 3D full time. Would really value some advice from anyone on wether or not I should continue with school and get a degree in Architecture or dedicate all my time into 3D.
I can clarify certain things if you have questions.

I'd focus on school and get a degree first. After all, architecture and 3D can overlap quite a bit, especially if you're doing something in the area of environment art or archviz. Learn 3D in your free time.

also to add on I don't think I would continue studying architecture after my part 1 so should I save the money I will spend on school and pay considerably less to learn 3d online?

I finished my arch degree but preferred 3d art. Its a good way to meet friends and develop hard worker discipline. The arch industry in LA is pretty rough, 16 hour workdays and ridiculous expectations. If you want to be a licensed architect you can meet some pretty rich people and ride along with wealthy socialites. If your more of a robot that likes to stay indoors on the computer its hard to progress. Social drinking and charisma are all over arch. 3d is a much more relaxed and better paying field ($1900 per rigged model commissions, 7k monthly patreons with smutbase garbage). I sometimes miss arch but the psychotic managers and soul crushing revit files pushed me out of it. Quitting college could save money, blender cloud is excellent alternative, just remember to be a well rounded person.
