Anyone got a nice source? I searched a lot but did not find anything coherent. I want to use it to texture my game assets.

this. don't bother with photoshop. masking, baking, PBR handling everything is all done by substance perfectly. photoshop is good for stylised if you aren't doing a PBR workflow (e.g: blizzard / mobile style) and that is it

Is there an intermediate and preferably free alternative to Substance Painter?

Thanks. As hobbyist, I don't really all features of SP and it's learning curve is drawback to me. Also I just love free software.

substance is a fucking piece of shit meme software, but hard edge stuff like guns is exactly what it does well
they dont require super high res textures and the fact you cant merge copy and manage layers isnt as big of a problem
now that adobe bought them out i really hope they finally add proper 2d tools and a fucking viewport renderer that fucking at lest does fucking shadows
fuck me, how fucking shit a viewport renderer can be, fucking games from 2001 had shadows maps, meanwhile everything in substance viewport looks like assss

>t. thinks substance painter is about throwing premade smart materials on your model and hoping it looks good

I still use Photoshop to do certain things like put together textures I bake separately, paint hair on the scalp, etc. For the most part though I'm very happy with Substance.
