I mean, isn't that kind of a good thing that it's the same?
I've never played either of these games so I can't comment on that, but when I buy a sequel to something, I'm just looking for more of the first but just "better".
I mean, I'd be pissed if they fundamentally changed how Monster Hunter worked, or if it didn't re-use monsters and animations I internalized after thousands of hours hunting them. Or even if some of my favorite weapon models didn't make a return.
I guess MH is a bit of a different thing, but games doing more of what they've already done just isn't an issue for me. As long as they put the work in to make it a bit different but still keep what I enjoyed about the first.
Unless the sequel is somehow less of a game than the first. Then I have an issue. With the first, it's understandable a good chunk of development is spent refining the engine, art direction, workflow familiarization, and all that jazz, so there's noticeably less time to fill up a game. But if you have all that done, and then go in to make a sequel and somehow it's not "bigger and better" despite building on the work you've already done and STILL HAVE, then that's fucking embarrassing.

Most gamers have no clue how games are made, it doesn't make sense to redo a perfectly good animation since that means more time for other aspects of the game. Fallout New Vegas was only as good as it was because they could save time reusing assets from Fallout 3 rather than make everything from scratch.

It's a fucking sequel. It's literally the same fucking character. Why on earth would they make all-new animations for every action?
When has that ever been normal to do? What would even be the point?
To shut up some turboautists?

I wish more game developers would reuse stuff. Reuse the fucking meshes and animation. Back in late 90s, the holy Westwood reused the fuck out of the internals of their games (rules.ini), to the point where faction from a game would be referenced as faction from previous game. Your fps flopped? Reuse the assets and do a moba.

there is no damage in the game, when even the free demo made by a handful of coders in their free time could do it for the Matrix Demo. Forza is absolutely not next gen.

Isn't this an expansion? Expansion packs have always reused stuff from the base game. Starcraft, Diablo, TES, Doom, and more. Pretty much since the beginning. Not sure why the reuse of stuff would be a problem unless Forbidden West is a new, stand-alone game.

I've not played either game, but who really cares?
If people like what's going on in the first game, just add more to it for a second one. They don't need to re-invent the wheel every time. They've got a fuckton of assets and animations and stuff that they don't need to re-make, which gives them more time to focus on more important things like the gameplay and story. I mean they won't, but less work that needs to be done on assets is more time to work on other things. Or just shit out the game faster.
If the game has a number attached to the title instead of a subtitle though (i.e. Game: 2, instead of Game: Subtitle), there better be a big change and they better re-invent the wheel.

Are you aware there are more than 4 people working on the game? Do you seriously think if a 3d artist in a team has less tasks, gameplay programmers and game designers will have more time for their tasks? Please be a bait, we’re not on /v/, I expect at least somewhat knowledgeable people here.

Agree with you in principle BUT you're ignoring one important fact here.
If these games use the original brand name they often have to make extensive contracts with the manufacturer and many of those don't want to see their cars getting trashed and destroyed. It becomes a clause in the contract and this is why in many games there is no real car damage.

Damage simulation, yes (i.e. engine damage, fucking up suspension).
But you're full of shit in terms of car damage visuals. At most you'll get a bumper falling off, but the rest is just scratch decals.
Show me a car in Forza becoming a crumpled can after you hit a wall at 200mph, and maybe I'll believe you.
