My fat neckbearded uncle who died of a blood clot back in 2015 spent most of his time playing second life

Introduced me to blender as the tool he used to make his characters in second life when I was like 9 back in 2011

He told me there was a time you could only model things in primitives in the game

I told him to model a doughnut 10 years before le blendlet tutorial came out

Everything in the game looks dated and I assumed it and all mmo's/virtual worlds died out around the early 2010's, is it still kicking enough for you to make money off it? My uncle said he made a tiny bit of money off of it back in the day.

I don't really know, his avatar seemed pretty normal but he requested his hard drive be burned in a giant fire when he died.

There are people whose full time job, as in paying their bills and for their house, is Second Life. Obviously that's not true for everyone who sells shit in SL but with the right products, you can clear 40k a year pretty easily.

It's less about how active it is, which it is, and more about how disposable people's income is in Second Life. I had a buddy dropping like 600 a month into the game. He was aware and didn't give a shit.

Multiple that by tens of thousands, and add out of touch boomers to the mix, boom, you're rich.

My dad took the hard drive out of his rig a long time ago and said he was going to install it in a computer to see what was in it but he never got around to it.

We live on a giant piece of repurpoused farmland my grandfather bought with a bunch of mobile homes scattered about, we used to have about 15 people living here at one point including my uncle but they all died off or moved away only my immediate family and a distant relative construction worker live on the property rn.

Anyway, I got into his trailer. His front door was locked and the back door and had no porch but it was openable. I climbed up into his house and grabbed the five hard drives my dad found in his house years earlier: pic related

Now I just have to find a way to read them, I've never really had to take apart my laptop before because my dad is printer technician who fixes computers on the side.

I think we have an external hard drive reader my dad used to use to save torrented movies to that's ended up in a box somewhere, I would prefer to get that if I can instead of taking apart my 11 year old HP Elitebook 2760p I got from goodwill that can still magically run modern versions of Zbrush and Blender well.

I'm so autistic that I didn't even stop to consider the social ramifications of this and if this would make people mad.

I just thought something along the lines of "oh he doesn't exist anymore he can't punish me if I do wrong" and "omg it wouldn't it be entertaining to see If the shit on there can outdo the crazy stuff I've seen on the internet so far" "4chan loves crazy stuff like this XDD" and proceeded to write an... entire paragraph.

Uuh Uhh UHHhuuhhhh
Uhh Uhh uhhh UH

Public opinion has not swung in my favor.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I apologize, though I know for sure you don't accept it. I'm just autistic idiot who went down a conversation that reminded me of this and wanted to open an epic cool secrit mystery box.

Who gives a shit dude, just open it and don't let anybody in your family know.
If your computer has enough free space, I suggest imaging the whole disk so you can just mount the image and explore that in a virtual machine rather than working on the drive itself.
An added perk of this method is being able to put the drives back (or destroy them) and still being able to store/access their contents whenever you want.
