I like to make things and tech had moved on to a point that real time rendering was good enough for final products so I jumped in

not so fast. All the sprites and animated sprites you see for explosions, smoke, etc are pre-rendered offline, turned into sprite sheets and only then are fast enough to be used in real time by the gpu.

Ever since I was young, I've dreamed of making a CGI movie like The Spirits Within.

I wonder if you could bake volumetric simulations in Houdini to an Alembic geometry cache and import those into a realtime engine like Unreal.

i think the human cg game sequences in "enders game" had similar uncanny vibes- i like it as it reminds me of the wow factor i got from the early ff games. but spirits within was basically ff7 meets star treck.

When Monty Oum died around December/January 2015. He was a genious ahead of his time and died so young for a stupid medical accident. I want to carry on the torch even if nobody ever notices me.

>wanted to make video games
>realized gamedev was a waste of time, too much effort, no money
>got into webdev
>found out about threejs
>figured i'd make really cool and advanced websites using blender + >webgl/threejs
now i am here
i was learning react, but it was extremely fucking boring
i made a few projects with HTML/CSS/JS, and now i'm improving my blender skills so i can make some cool sites with 3d web tech
hopefully it ends well
i'm giving myself around 3 months of work on this to see how it goes, and if there's any potential
if it doesn't seem feasible after 3 months, i'm going back to react, and i'm going to grind until i get a job
i'll then do 3d as a side hobby

I’m currently in a dilemma right now. I want to be paramedic to ya know help people but I also have taken a liking to making 3D animations maybe even making a career out of it. I know it might be impossible to do both, but can anybody in a similar position give me some advice.

I guarantee there is already someone making big bux on Patreon who stopped doing their own work long ago and now just employs three chinks to do it for him.

You could be making 3d animations for surgeons and models of anatomy for medical students. You would be raking more than a doctor I guess.

I don't think you can make 300k+ a year doing medical 3d animation.

Literally because of my mother. I was a clueless dumb fuck in school who just played games all day. I knew I liked art, computers and science, so at the end of high school she started to help me look for college courses. I was looking at CAD and Product Design, because for some reason the thought of making shit for games/movies never even crossed my mind, despite my whole life revolving around them.

So one day she stumbled upon some 3d animation/modelling courses. I checked out their websites and the student showreels and though fuck yes, this is actually exactly what I wanna do. Here I am many years later, still doing it.

I'm a professional programmer. I'm very good at programming. I got good at programming very quickly, and was work-ready in only a couple years. I wanted to make a video game for fun, but found off-the-shelf assets a pain in the ass to work with. Nothing goes together, and I didn't have the skills to adapt them. I figured I should learn 3D art to be able to make my own video game assets. Now it's 3 years later, I still haven't made a game, and I still fucking suck at 3D.

At least I can still program, though.

Back when I was 13 I used to make little animations to show my friends, and artwork for the shitty songs a friend and I made to post on Myspace.
Now I still do the same thing, but professionally. I make music videos and loops for musicians, and album artwork for their songs.
