๐Ÿงต Is it worth learning Blender?

Anonymous No. 879951

I am mostly a 3D sculptor who uses Blender to get a better presentation of my sculptures through light effects and node-configured materials. I have basic, nearly intermediate knowledge of Blender. I had been using Blender 2.83 up to this date, and yesterday I downloaded the so-called 3.0.1 version.
I was not impressed at all. The so-so called Geometry Nodes are nothing but the same instancing Zbrush had already implemented SEVEN YEARS AGO through Nanomesh/Arraymesh/Micromesh.
At such a slow pace it makes me wonder when, if ever, are they going to catch up with Maya and other 3D packages. But I am not as well-informed as some anons here so, here's my question in concrete: in order to bring my sculptures to the next level and stay competent, what software should I learn? I already have one foot inside Blender, I know ALL of the basics and I've even created my own materials from scratch using math nodes and whatnot. But, yeah, is it worth? I am someone who doesn't have a lot of time, I started in 3D when I was 30 years old, I'm 32 now, so I can't fool around with my time anymore. Can someone elucidate me on the subject?
For the reference, I want to focus in animating soft bodies, organics, I am not into landscapes or machinery or backgrounds.

You need unreal engine 5 now, I can sense it

But I have to pay for it right? And then, I think they don't allow the users to create "lewd" content...

You kinda sound like a big case of Dunning-Kruger, but anyway. If we're talking about efficiency, your core toolset is ZBrush + Maya, with Substance Painter/3DCoat/Marmoset Toolbag/Marvelous Designer/Houdini/etc. on your discretion.
>animating
Maya.
>soft bodies
Rigs? Maya.
Sims? Maya or Houdini. Marvelous Designer or Houdini for clothes.
Look into Ziva VFX for Maya if you're really serious about this.

Maya's built-in renderer, Arnold, is more robust than Cycles, but slower/more hardware-dependent. You also can get a Redshift or Octane subscription. If you actually understand what you're doing in Cycles, learning and getting comfortable any of these 3 renderers should be pretty easy and fast.
For real-time rendering you have Marmoset Toolbag and UE/Unity.
Or you can export FBX/Alembic/USD to Blender and render with Cycles/Eevee.

I just don't want to end up becoming an expert of something that currently seems to never be able to catch up with the present. Still, thank you for taking your time to type all that, to me it seems that its time to get Maya and Marmoset then.

Pirate maya and find out for yourself. It takes less than 5 minutes and you could have explored most of the program in the time since you've made this post

Where from? I don't want to get a virus

You sound young and dumb. Just pirate and explore. Who really gives a flying fuck. Be free and explore. Get out of your head and fuck the law. Just do something besides posting useless stuff on 4chan.

I got malware from a zbrush torrent on CGP

That's why I picked something other than what he said he's been doing for 2 years. Replace maya with anything else and my point is the same.

Like your "dude just be free" hippy boomer non-advice? Everyone knows there are a million ways to go about learning 3d faggot. No one is suggesting to box yourself into a single learning path

You did the right thing and reported it as malware on CGP, right?
