it looks about the same as pre-rendered cinematics from AAA game companies. With regards to the eyebrows you can even differentiate between the eyebrow hair and the eyebrow make up. The eyelashes look fine, too. Post your work.

How do you actually make portraits without premade stuff like DAZ models?
Every tutorial, without fail, the final piece looks either nothing like the person or kinda like them.

That's a problem down to the individual artist of the prop. Iray has a pretty good shader for hair and thin surfaces.
