I use pirated win 8.1 and literally never updated Windows in my life. My father is using pirated Windows 7, and he's running Utorrent despite my repeated warnings not to do it and his PC is the mother of botnets. Despite that, he buys stuff online from it all the time and nothing happened so far.

If you're adamant about continuing to use Windows, then here's how you postpone/stop updates.
>Go to Settings, then Update & Security
>Click Pause updates for 7 days as much as it lets you
If you want to just postpone, then that's it. Otherwise...
>Go to Network & Internet
>Click Properties
>Set your network as a metered connection
With that, Windows will not download the update unless you tell it to.

Big studios unironically run Linux so they don't have to bend to the strange whims and demands of Windows.
