How do you call people who spend years learning all software, but still can't make anything good?

Some people are just afraid of trying because they might fail or/and lack discipline and direction. Watching hours of tutorials or "learning" all these programs makes them feel like they're making progress and doing productive things. They get to feel good with minimal effort but don't actually accomplish anything.

>>882499
do they actually know how to use all those applications? or are they like pajeets who collect online certs?

Anonymous No. 882815

no cad software, disaoppinted, gotta catch em all XD

This picture is from askNK artsation, and i'm pretty sure he is not animator nor he is user interface designer, guy was using 3D for like 15 years and had zero progress in past 14

They probably used them once, and never uninstalled them.

Theres no way they can use all those software to a good level. I put marvelous designer in my cv when all I can do in it is the most basic cloth simulation that is only a rectangle that will act as a carpet/some towel in the back. Yea i can use substance designer if I find a tutorial of what I wanna do or something close, otherwise if I wasnt given an internet access and just the software id be fucked

3dsmax has cad functionality to a degree that is acceptable for pretty much all uses.

Anonymous No. 882867

>>882862
and if that's not enough; there are 3rd party plugins that extend these CAD functionalities even further

Anonymous No. 882870

>>882862
no it doesnt. you're better off just getting a dedicated cad program

3ds can't replace Fusion. Solidworks or CATIA, nobody questions that. But it's enough if you want to do basic archviz or just snap some elements into place.

yeah for basic stuff its ok. anything beyond that isn't

It's called the 80/20 rule.

Most people only will ever know 20% of the actual program. It's rare to meet someone that really understands the program fully.

Anonymous No. 882876

>>882875
Yes but why would you ever base your own skill levels on those of the other people in the field? That's no way to be the best.

Anonymous No. 882888

>art skills

>zbrush
these are the core ones, right? everything else is padding or specialized

Anonymous No. 882889

>>882888
Zbrush is itself specialized. Most 3d packages including max and maya have rudimentary sculpting features built in.

>>882889
Agreed, but I mean in the sense that you are almost always required to know these if you want to work in the industry. Everything else seems to be optional.

I think you have the wrong mindset about being "the best". I have a list of over 20 programs I am familiar with and know how to use. I got a job at a news station and several local studios because I was familiar with those programs. It wasn't about being the best, it was about showing competence and willingness. And most of the job was more like 5/95. I literally didn't have to do all that much, intensive grinding in the programs.

You miss Substance as the core one as well. You completely forgot about the texturing part, and that's actually the most "artistic" and part of 3D next to sculpting. IMO the most important part as well. But yes, a modeling package of choice + Zbrush + Substance Painter and you're good to go.

And I think you have the wrong mindset.
You're viewing it purely as a vocation. I'm talking about mastering it as an artform.

Anonymous No. 882914

So you would only know 1 program to it's fullest? Doesn't sound like you would have much of a job if you only know one thing in this field.

Wait what? Mastering a tool is somehow equal to mastering an art form? If anything it should be the opposite, mastering an art form is a separate thing, you don't need to know 100% of technical details in some program to create top quality art. Man, /3/ is full of the weirdest takes...
