What went wrong?
Why did it stop getting updates?

I almost forgot about this, and I was hyped about it like crazy and shilling it here when it was released, heh...
Idk why, Megascans is still going strong though.

I just don't understand the software. In my head everything is so confusing with megascans, bridge, quixel. I tried making material with mixer but it seems so limiting compared to alchemist (if it still exist now fuck u adobe)
I wanted to create an old wall with paint cracking texture in it but I have no idea where to start how to proceed. Everything online is the same terrain texture tutorial

You see that mud in the OP image? Yeah didn't you read the documentation? That's the ONLY thing the software allows you to make. Different mud variations. Wet mud dry mud all kinds. No walls

Isn't it called Adobe Sampler now?

requires you to login
can't save normally where I want
if you don't intall free packs there are no default materials to play with
ui looks and behaves like shit, it looks exactly like epic games launcher

It's definitely doable, Mixer is pretty great for blending like that, after all that's its main thing. Put the base wall material, add a paint on top and then you play with layer height that is based on the height maps. Actually the workflow is the same with other software. If anything, Mixer makes it even easier because the terminology is a no-brainer. But yeah, it's different and you need to get used to it.

Because Epic bought them
Epic don't care about mixer, however they do care about Megascans, since this is something that convince people to switch to Unreal

yea it's sampler now. It says its to make texture from real life photo but to be honest I never used it this way, I just dl material from megascans, import it and modify it inside, in quixel you cant really change it

You do realize Epic were trying to buy Allegorithmic/Substance before Adobe bought them? The whole reason they acquired Quixel is because they missed out on Allegorithmic.

I tried to retexture some MMD models with it but I didn't go too far in the process, and Mixer was used mostly so I could mash around the Megascans assets with masks I painted myself. Mixer could go toe-to-toe with Substance but if they won't bother to keep up the competition then people also won't bother to learn it.

it's good for mixing megascans assets together but that is it. they tried making it a painting tool as well but since you can't bake your maps inside the tool it's useless to me

No you retard.
>Mixer made on Unity
>Epic has been trying to make UE into a full package (animation tools added with Control Rig, modelling tools making big strides in UE5, so on)
>Epic bought them
Put two and two together. Epic is 100% going to integrate Mixer into Unreal. The reason there are no updates is because it is almost certainly being ported over to UE from Unity, which is a big job and will take time. I'm sure Mixer will still have a standalone program but it will get very closely integrated with UE, maybe it will even replace/merge with whatever new material editor they come up with.
Texturing/materials is the last thing Epic hasn't added to UE. They have animations, they have modelling, now Mixer is all that remains.

>You do realize Epic were trying to buy Allegorithmic/Substance before Adobe bought them?
Source? Why would Epic not buy Quixel and get the MegaScans too?

Why would they integreate Mixer in UE, though? It is super easy to transfer mats through Bridge, what's the point? Modeling and animation tools are different, they are improved now, but I doubt anyone uses UE modeling tools seriously. It's nice to have for level blockout I guess, like ProBuilder in Unity.
