Can I work in 3D with just my mouse? I absolutely hate using pencils, That's what made me ignore 2D. Also what are my chances of finding a job if I invested my time in it

3D is more than drawing textures and sculpting, which are the only areas where a drawing tablet is used.

doing rigging or modelling or node shaders or animating without a mouse is the most retarded shit ever.

Your time isn't worth shit with that attitude, OP - nobody will give you a job. Why don't you see for yourself how far you get with just a mouse, instead of getting schizos to explain to an absolute beginner what problems there are when doing things you haven't experienced for yourself?

you're not going to be a skiing instructor if you've never skiied, so why even ask? You know what you have to do, go do it

You seriously let a pencil get in your way? lol what a loser

My problem is that I'm a perfectionist, I don't like to just "try" and "experience" with something, I must put total dedication to it and make a good product out of it. my autism won't let my drop it halfway in.

I thought this board had people serious about 3d not retarded zoomies wanting to make 3d models of their waifus and farm twitter likes. fucking nigger.

even when you are viewing tutorials, if the instructor uses a space mouse it just looks so much more professional than other input methods - the smoothness and preciseness of the tracking.

You need to be able to accept that your work and it's gonna suck a lot and for a long time before you are able to make something truly worthwhile
t. former perfectionist, now cured of his autism

Anonymous No. 883555

You only need a tablet for pressure sensitivity. Tbh you don't even need that with layer opacity and other things like filters. Just get the cheapest Wacom you can if you have to.

>perfectionist
You're not a perfectionist you're just just insecure about failure. If you can't do something to some arbitrary standard, then there's no point in trying, and if you don't try then you can never be disappointed. So you make up all these conditions that have to be met before you attempt anything, or in most cases just do nothing.

You have to seriously reevaluate your mindset and change the way you approach things. Or at least modify it in a way that allows you to try things while still operating within your "autistic" framework. This cringe shit is gonna ruin your life otherwise, but you seem like a teenager so you've probably just not failed enough to know it's not gonna kill you.

>i must put total dedication to it and make a good product
Is someone holding a gun to your head? A deadline to pick a career path set by your parents or something?
>my autism won't let me drop it halfway
Why 3D? Do you even like 3D? Which 3D discipline are you going to pursue? How do you know if don't like to try or experience things? These are very important things to consider before you overcommit to something you might hate.
>mouse/pen
Unless you have a disability, this should not be the deciding factor. If you continue with 3d, you will end up using both anyway.
>my chances of finding a job
Same as with any specialized profession, all depends on what you put in. If you study smart, put in A LOT of work, know at least roughly what you want, set goals for yourself, then you will get there. Give yourself some time to try shit out, figure out what you want to do, and if you work consistently you could probably become employable within 2 years.

don't buy anything until you feel constrained by what you already have. don't buy anything thinking you'll find a use for it after you bought it.

texture painting is completely fine with a mouse. especially if you have experience with FPS / fine mouse control. the brushes do a lot of work for you anyway.

sculping is impossible however

Your problem is you're calling yourself a perfectionist when you haven't even started. Nothing is possible for people like you.

>I must put total dedication to it
>my autism won't let my drop it halfway in.
You gave up on 2D and you're asking if you should invest time in 3D to get a job because you don't like pencils. You're lazy and autistic, not dedicated and autistic.

>I absolutely hate using pencils,

Did a pencil kill your dog or something?? Most 3D artists are at least decent at sketching things. Scanning drawings/modeling from image references right in the viewport is extremely useful, especially for technical things. There is no way you're going to free-hand model those things.

tl;dr

git gud with a pencil (or draw with a tablet)

not gonna happen unless the person has already artistic training under his belt or is somebody with a very strong passion who has done drawings or other artistic stuff as a hobby for a longer period of time. That or an abnormal intelligent/creative and diligent person.
None of that applies to OP.
Especially not the last part.

I’m working with just a mouse myself. It can be a little fiddly, but at least in Blender you can get pretty good results. I won’t post because I’m a noob and it looks monstrous (but not because I used a mouse, just because I’m bad).
