๐งต Tips for my journey with blender
anon at Tue, 22 Feb 2022 16:30:18 UTC No. 884061
I'm following Garret's dragon sculpting course in blender. This is basically my second sculpt. What do yall think? Any tips? I wanna texture it and rig it and make some render but have no idea how yet lol. It's a 25k polygon model with multires modifier with 5 subdivisions

These types of posts go in the wip general.
The sculpting to animation process is like this:
Sculpt > Retopology > Texturing > Rigging > Animation
(You can do texturing after rigging as well if you want to fix possible texture deformation when the model bends)
As for the sculpt, the whole anatomy is all over the place, looks closer to a dog than a dragon.
Torso is too small, the arms need to follow anatomy closer, back legs are too short, specifically the tighs and tibia, wings should be in a more horizontal position if you want to rig them easier, neck is too short and tail is too thin.
My advice for the moment would be, make a moodboard of the dragon you want to make, look up reptile anatomy and apply those principles to the sculp, komodo dragon and crocodile are often the go to for dragon anatomy.
Don't go too overboard with subsivisions yet, fix anatomy first and when you are sure everything is in place then subdivide.

Really impressive, though i don't really like the idea of the front legs looking more like hands rather than legs.
Nice to see someone do an actual dragon here for a change instead of being an anthrofaggot.

>Garret's dragon sculpting course
Garret's sculpt looks horrible, this is the kind of dragon you should be doing, yes, you can port all of that to blender, just learn the basics first >skin modifier, boolean brush, multiresolution etc....

make the neck longer.
make the body longer thicker with more mussle and longer tail
make the head alittle bigger make hind legs alot bigger and more mussles and rare.
make the front feet less like human arms and closer to the neck. make the neck thicker
think of aerodynamics dragons are just feather less birbs
you could even make a feathered version as in real life dragons had feathers and no feathers.
btw dragons have bigger eyes.
try to make the dragon have more nail like claws. claws on wings are bone. wings are a membrain so its kinda see though as you would see veins and shit. work on more mussle at the bottom of the wing.
remember try to give the impression of weight and strength.
injuries and scars bring out the realism.
dragons can have blue, yellow, green or black eyes. wings should be a lighter shade then the body (blood flow)
body should be a light blood red horns are brown, more scales
more scale armor around bigger scales joints.
your dragon needs a tougue something long and slender folked or not.
that should make it 5 times better and more realistic.

dragons don't exist brother
OP, Make the dragon how you want in your own way, It is way sicker and looks great so far. And happy to see good creatures that exist apart from the clown convention. DON'T modify your intentions. Iterate your vision, hone your skills.
