Is it worthwhile joining a 3d discord? It takes like a week on average to get a reply on polycount.

I can't help but think any trade-related discord would just be a cesspit of cloutchasing. Especially any that have a "job board" channel.

Yes, we keep repeating that. Join Dinusty, EXP and 3DFT if you're VERY SERIOUS about getting a job in this.

Worthwhile of you enjoy being groomed by nonces and discort trannies.

Yeah, I'm on exp points, flippednormals, zbrush, dinusty. Only engage with these trannies if you are prepared for shitty working conditions. Avoid openvfx because it's a containment zone for blendfags who only talk about making waifus without showing the work and shitting on other programs.

Am I misunderstanding? What does posting on discord have to do with shitty working conditions?

You will only improve if you surround yourself with people who're better at that shit than you PLUS steady learning and practice every day.
Asslicking groups won't help SHIT.

There are no secrets anymore. Anything you need to do has been documented or even has videos. You have to become your own critic by looking at others work and comparing yourself to it. I know a lot of npc's can't do this though.

That's exactly why you should join those groups.

Also it's a breeding ground for idiotic drama non stop

not really
it's usually just circlejerks to get (you)s
i got anything useful only from youtube, tutrors and most importantly from directly contacting people who are better than me to get feedback

This is the way of low-iq troglodites, if you can't solve your own problems while you have the internet at your disposal, do this. When you are born with a good brain, you don't need help from hierarchical groups based on some skillset that you would like to have. You just DO it yourself, you work by doing research and applying, or coming up with solutions yourself.

You have to know how to use it, my way is basically like a marketing person, I just post my work in various places and pay attention to reactions. Even though a lot of them might be less critical than I'd like, if you regularly get a ton of likes and people notice your stuff there's a good chance you're doing things right.

Not to mention all the help you would get almost instantly when you really need it, unlike e.g. on /3/. I don't remember when was the last time somebody responded to my occasional questions.

Also, it motivates you when you see great stuff being posted every day. /3/'s WIP is not even close to that quality.
