What are some recommended resin printers for printing huge, maquette-sized pieces? I'm talking 1/6-1/4 statues. I imagine they'd still have to be cut into pieces (not expecting an actual 20" build height), but what's most efficient?
Or should I just go with a third party printing service to do it for me?

If you want to print big I'd go with FDM since printing big with resin is fuck expensive and also a question of stability. Resin prints are not as stronk.

Are there printers nowadays that don't have those god-awful layer lines? I know you can get them with resin too, but they're much less noticeable there.

no, but you can make them almost disappear by printing with really small layer heights. this of course drives up the printing time massively though. it's just how 3D printing works and that's also why most people do post-work by hand to give their prints a nice finish.
big parts can get evened out by "shaving" them with a semi-sharp and even blade OR you take a heat resistant container, fill it with really really fine salt powder, completely hide your print in there and then bake it on a certain temperature. this gets rid of the lines and even makes it sturdier but you have to know how to do it or else you'll fuck shit up
