You are making something out off nothing, therefore its not nothing anymore.

Look up application templates. It's a little bit of work, but you can set your own splash inside one and set it as the default Blender template.

It used to be under 5MB, it was a big deal when it went up to 10MB and the community (on IRC) started talking about bloat. Funny to think about anybody complaining about it getting bloated when it's now 90MB.
To be fair 90MB is nothing now, so Blender is still tiny by most software standards.

Does this speed up Eevee significantly? To me, 1 second per frame or 2 seconds per frame is a big deal.

I wish they'd improve their texture painter. it still has some major flaws that no other texture painter has, like the brush size scaling with the view's zoom, rather than staying constant in proportion to the model size. this makes it impossible to paint with a textured brush

Cranking up the size of a procedural texture while in eevee (eats up vram) will crash your OS

As in just crashing the application or producing a stop error / blue screen? Now THAT would be lousy coding.

It crashed my windows. I would argue that the GPU driver should prevent that, if not, then the OS. The app itself should lock up and/or crash without taking down the whole ship, but it seems there isn't as much protection with vram as there is with ram. I'm not sure how Blender would prevent it. It could give a warning when your vram is running low. If I decide to drop in a 256 MB texture when I'm at 7.9 GB, Blender could throw up a warning. But with procedural textures, the texture is being created and I'm not sure you can know what the final memory size would be in advance. Maybe they can do the what gimp does when you want to make a huge image file.

>will crash your OS
Blender only knows two ways of crashing. The common flash crash, basically Blender just vanishing in a second without any message and the absolute horror crash that takes the WHOLE OS with it.
That is one thing that really impressed me actually about Blender. I didn't remember the last time software had crashed this catastrophically until I accidentally typed in a wrong value for the remesher and hit enter. Quickly the 32 gigabytes of ram filled up, the swap filled up, the cursor and literally any input reaction slowed so much that I couldn't do anything but watching shit grinding to a complete halt while looking like pic related.
