any tips on organizing files when you work on a project? as soon as I start working on something my desktop turns into mess of fbxs, textures, objs, some temporary maya folders etc. how the fuck do you keep everything clean and organized? then importing all that shit into engine and organizing it there makes everything 100x worse

Keep a folder structure like this.

I tried this but the projects are multi-software so this quickly becomes useless as you have 20 different file formats and need them all under one project

this is one project as well. The larger project name is hidden under the red line that i crossed out.

I try to keep a pretty flat folder structure, usually not more than only two folders deep. I don't care if my /textures folder ends up with a thousand files as long as I can type "gra" and filter to the grass textures. Easier than figuring out if the grass is in a "plants" folder or "floors" folder.
/projects
/projects/project name
/assets
/assets/textures
/assets/models
/assets/materials
/assets/brushes
/assets/kits (kit bash)

I make a main folder in which I save my progressive maya or blender files
Inside it I usually have a sep folder for any brush work
Another for any uv work
Another for any substance painter texture work
And even though it’s slower these files are all on an external hd
Main hd stays lean
